Remove Servers in Web App from the device list

caoskid@apfelcouch.decaoskid@apfelcouch.de Members, Plex Pass Posts: 8 Plex Pass

Hi,

I just mentioned that I can find all my "test installations" of Plex Servers that I connected to MyPlex. You can not remove servers like all other types of devices.

Is there a way to remove the servers or is there a timeout period after which a server is removed that does not connect to MyPlex. The "oldest" server has not connected since 2 months in my case.

removing it from here should do so https://plex.tv/servers  ( click server name then remove button)

    does that not work?

The servers in question does not show up on https://plex.tv/servers. There I can find the "active" servers.

The list of zombie servers I found is on "http://plex.tv/web/app#!/settings/devices"

Unlike other devices in the server section I cant find any remove button for the servers.

Last time we had a dialogue on Plex Apps remembering old servers - the outcome was that one needs to uninstall and re-install the Plex app.

True, have seen this before on the apps it self, but the problem here is myPlex.

When reinstalling the app > servers are gone.

But (note all my servers are offline, stopped, killed ect), when i login to myPlex i get 3 ghost servers that do not exist anywhere but on myPlex: http://plex.tv/web/app#!/settings/devices while https://plex.tv/servers shows there are no servers (" You have no servers of your own published to Plex. Just sign into the Plex web app, and click publish in the preferences.")

My servers are partly crashed installations of the FreeBSD plugins. A remove button in the device section of the WebApp would be fantastic for such problems.

Well it was only a few days ago when they withdrew the facility to remove old servers from the devices screen because it was said one could do it from plex.tv/servers view

If that is not possible for all cases, then suggest you update the thread where I asked the question and see what Eric Matthys says.

    The thread is here https://forums.plex.tv/topic/101215-plexweb-2019-release-notice-deleting-old-servers/

they are aware of the issue. i don't know when it will get addressed.

do the sections from those servers show up in library lists in apps or really effect anything major being there?

  • caoskid@apfelcouch.decaoskid@apfelcouch.de Members, Plex Pass Posts: 8 Plex Pass

Only the list of known servers e.g. in the iOS app is scrollable for me because there are all zombies listed. Confusing but no crashs or other problem for using Plex.

I'm not 100% sure they are all related, but it seems possible that other things I'm having issues with are related...

    My issues:

    1) Cannot delete second, ghost server from devices list (no red cross)

    2) Cannot delete folder locations from libraries (keep re-appearing)

    3) Changed my TV Shows onto another, new drive, started new library, cannot delete old library (keeps re-appearing)

    4) Duplicates of all my on deck shows (due to the duplicate libraries I guess)

If you still have the 'ghost' server - have a look at the 2 posts here and see if the one from Eric (Plex/Web Dev) clears the problem and if not then try the recommendation in the other post

If not please add a post to that thread with some evidence/screenshots

Please also check if the ghost server shows up in this xml

    http://plex.tv/pms/resources.xml

Same problem here, I have uninstalled from QNAP old versions (but I didn't unmap it before uninstalling), so now I have 4-5 zombie servers in the list.

xml looks perfectly ok, only 2 servers, same as the server section on https://plex.tv/servers

Here a screenshot of the devices/servers section in the web app where you can see the 2 servers on top, as well as 12 zombies

Thanks - it was a hunch.

Now what about the 2 posts I linked https://forums.plex.tv/topic/101215-plexweb-2019-release-notice-deleting-old-servers/?p=639290

One talks about clearing browser cache

and the other one from Eric suggests signing out and in from myPlex/plex.tv - so that would be the sign in / sign out buttons in top right hand corner of the plex.tv/web screen

If they do not work, i suggest doing a Quote Reply to Eric's post here and say it does not get rid of them for you and link to your post here

Please note that when submitting screenshots - two things are important: being able to see the url you used (top) and seeing the time (bottom right corner) - to relate to any times in any log files submitted

I see this ghosting around for quite some time...

I had one ghost-server for every previously installed PMS including every updated server.

This is really not a big issue but it became annoying at some point.

I could get rid of all my "ghost servers" very easily but not following any standard procedure offered by Plex.

    Here is my workaround solution:

The routine needed to delete the "ghost servers" is available in the GUI.

The button to apply the routine is also there but it is not visible because it's class is set to "hidden"

If you edit the class of the button and remove the hidden attribute the button becomes visible and can be used to remove the "ghost server".

You need a browser that has the ability to edit the html-code directly on the site. Go to the device-view (I use Nightly or Firefox)

Look for the code of the "invisible button" with "inspect element"

    <button class="remove-device-btn btn-gray btn-danger hidden" href="#"><i class="glyphicon ban"></i></button>

and just remove the attribute "hidden" from the code (the part of the code I marked)

The button becomes visible and you can remove the "ghost-drive"

This is not an easy to perform workaround. I would suggest to wait until Plex comes up with a fix.

Maybe a Plex dev. can give a hint if this workaround can possibly cause any damage on the system because I'm wandering if there is any important reason to hide the delete button.
