SONY Bravia 2014 DLNA Profile

klass_sicklass_sic Posts: 3Members

I'm new to Plex and have found that my Sony KDL-55W955B wasn't displaying any cover art/thumbnails for movies over DLNA.

To this end I've edited the SONY 2013 profile and made the following changes:

<Client name="Sony Bravia 2014">

and tweaked the regex for the

Header name:

".*KDL-\d{2}[WR][5689]\d{2}B.*"

FriendlyName:

"KDL-\d{2}[WR][5689]\d{2}B.*"

While these changes might not be totally correct, my TV is now displaying the Thumbnails for movies etc.

Hope this helps someone out there - and for those of you who know what you're doing I'd appreciate some guidance on how to correctly do this :).

    Hi klass_sic, same issue as you, I tried your solution but it did not seem to work. Can you paste your xml file?

  • klass_sicklass_sic Posts: 3Members

    lol - I can't work out how to paste into this forum!

    Anyway it seems like it's not really worth it - the quality of the streamed media drops dramatically.

    So the Generic Profile gives excellent quality with no covers - the tweaked 2013 profile gives covers but poor quality.

    I'll paste the xml later (when I work out how) anyway - perhaps a modification of the generic profile will work.

    Sorry :(

  • klass_sicklass_sic Posts: 3Members

    Ok - latest workaround until a proper solution is found:

    Edit (and make a backup of) the Generic profile and replace the <Client name="Generic"/> section with
    <Client name="Generic">

    <Settings>

    <Setting name="AlbumArtPN" value="JPEG_TN"/>

    </Settings>

    </Client>

    This is working for displaying covers on my Sony Bravia KDL55w955b - I don't currently stream to any other devices so this tweak shouldn't cause me any problems.  I'll look into moving this generic profile to the user folder, rather than the server one so it doesn't get overwritten by software updates.

    Hope this helps.

    I can confirm that this worked beautifully on my kdl-70w850b

    It's nice to have the thumbnails. Thank you.

    There is a good profile here. I made a couple simple improvements (the regular expression and album art), see below.

    Copy/paste it in a Sony Bravia 2014.xml file and put it next to the other profile files in the Profiles folder (on OS X it is /Applications/Plex Media Server.app/Contents/Resources/Profiles for example). Restart Plex. Enjoy! (Thanks Ragnar-Kon.)

    I myself have a question re: the DLNA support in the Sony (or others). You can have thumbnails for the movies but not for the folders that lead to the movies (e.g. Movies, then All Movies or Movies by Genre etc.)?

    Sorry I missed your question the first time I read through the post.  To answer it, no you can't have pictures for the folders leading to the actual movie files.

    I tried this and then none of my media would load after that.

    I do not care as much about thumbnails as I do getting subtitles working on my TV.

    Any suggestions?

    With that being said, subtitles work fine when streaming from my PS3, yet I want to move it to a different tv in the house.

    Is your TV by chance a european version?

    For one user I suggested adding the DlnaMediaProfiles back into the profile and it worked for him. (A kdl-40W605B I believe)  If you want to try it, add the following back into the profile just above the last </client> tag

    <DlnaMediaProfiles>

    Is your TV by chance a european version?

    For one user I suggested adding the DlnaMediaProfiles back into the profile and it worked for him. (A kdl-40W605B I believe)  If you want to try it, add the following back into the profile just above the last </client> tag

    Not European,

    I had to add the DlnaVideoProfiles back (see https://gist.github.com/yarrouye/acdbf4281dc2c421375a).

    But all my files are transcoding now, and my Sony says the file size are 320x136 (!) which would explain the very very bad quality. If I revert to the direct profile, I get my movies just fine (e.g. a 2.35:1 movie in 720p is 1080x544).

    I searched around and found mentions of a client quality setting but I can't find where that would be? The only thing I can find is a Transcoder setting that is set to "Automatic" but I would expect Plex to transcode to a high quality on an idle quad-core i7 Mac Mini. Where would a quality setting for transcoding to the TV be found? The TV is not listed anywhere as a client in the Plex UI that I could find.

    Besides the quality issue, it is frustrating that Plex transcodes something that plays well directly. For example this file plays directly beautifully (and shows three audios that play well too). Why does Plex decide it needs to be transcoded to 320x136? (The video has cabac=1 which some thought has been a problem forcing transcoding, but the TV plays it well directly, is there a way to make it so through the profile too?)

    From the UI settings there arn't any client settings, there is a section with a text box under DLNA you can manually type things into, but I believe it is the same spot that the server updates when you change the options from the DLNA menu.

    If you look in your DLNA log, it should tell you why it is transcoding something in the lines that have MDE at the beginning.  The only thing I could think of forcing a transcode would be subtitles as you don't really have any limits applied.  You can try commenting out the lowerbound limits for the video codecs.

    I'll have a look.

    All my subtitles are mixed into the container. I don't think the Sony has a UI to request subtitles anyway (I didn't see one at least) so I am not sure why Plex would try to remix (the video does not show subtitles either).

    Even if Plex had a reason to transcode (it sure thinks so), why the 320x136 size? That is smaller than a 1990 phone...

    The only thing I could think of would be the lowerlimits for the video are confusing the transcoder.  And that is just a complete guess.

    When a video file is transcoding what is the transcoder line being called?  It is in the Plex Media Server.log it will have the exact command that is being passed to the transcoder.

    Hi, I have a brand new Plex server over Ubuntu Server 14.04.1 and a Sony Bravia KDL-50W805B 2014 TV set.

    First, I can setup the Sony DLNA client and can see the Plex DLNA server, then If I try to see videos on my TV set, it displays just fine, but no subtitules!, and music plays well but no albums cover arts.

    I was just up to write a help request when stumbled upon this thread, so I have tweaked the Sony Bravia 2013.xml profile file, renamed it to Sony Bravia 2014.xml and copied to /usr/lib/plexmediaserver/Resources/Profiles, restarted Plex server service plexmediaserver restart and the log file Plex DLNA Server.log located in /var/lib/plexmediaserver/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Logs indicates that profiles were loaded.

    Now, when connecting the TV to the Plex media server I start to get lines like this, indicating my TV is correctly associated with the new profile

    Mapped client to profile Sony Bravia 2014 using header X-AV-Client-Info: av=5.0; cn="Sony Corporation"; mn="BRAVIA KDL-50W805B"; mv="1.7";

    That seems good, now I can see album arts (no artists arts on folders) and movies displays subtitles but the quality is really downgraded as Dr. Crash says.

    I tryed removing DlnaMediaProfiles but no luck, and even added/removed the LowerBound tags but no luck, the result is the same.

    Of course I have restarted the server just after any profile edit.

    Just to mention, this was auto created in my DLNA client preferences field on Server DLNA config page

    IP=10.0.0.25,DirectPlay=false,DirectStream=false,LocalResolution=320x240,RemoteResolution=320x240,OnlineResolution=320x240,LocalVideoQuality=24,RemoteVideoQuality=24,OnlineVideoQuality=24,SubtitleSize=250,AudioBoost=250,MusicBitrate=64

    My TV set is from Argentina

    Any ideas why Plex starts transcoding TV playable files?

    I have attached my Plex DLNA Server.log file, generated with the generic profile active, and the same log but with the Sony Bravia 2014 profile activated and the Sony Bravia 2014.xml profile file to this post

    Just a shot in the dark, did you try changing LocalResolution to a different value? The one from the Server DLNA page?  Something like 1280x720?

    Or from your Sony TV while navigating the DLNA menu's there should be a preferences folder that allows you to change some options as well

    Great, the folder thing in my TV works, but after turning of the TV I have to set up everything again. Any chance to get that saved and fixed for that TV?

    Another issue is that the video rescaling doesn't respects aspect ratio, so I get movies in different asperct rarios as original to fit 1080p demand...

    Thanks!

    Sorry, spoke too soon, I indeed get the settings saved in the DLNA client preferences field. Can that settings be added to the xml profile?

    The last thing to fix is the aspect ratio thing, I had a 1280x546 movie played at 1920x1080 but not keeping the aspect ratio.

    Also, there is an issue with 3d movied and subtitles, I tested a 1920x1090 3D movie but subtitles appear divided in each corner of the screen...

    The LocalResolution isn't a valid setting tag anymore from what I remember, but once it is saved in the DLNA Client preferences it should stay there.

    Unfortunately, I have heard a lot about hte aspect ratios being off but haven't seen any major fixes.  (The main fix was to change the container transcoding into with ASF being the next best container).  From what I recall it has to do with Anamorphic videos and there was some work with the new transcoder to try and fix it but it seems to be hit or miss for people.

    For subtitles with 3D movies you have to make sure they're specially formatted for the 3D film.  I did find this guide that might help a bit from another user:

    https://forums.plex.tv/topic/114431-guide-how-to-watch-3d-videos-h-sbsh-tab-with-subtitles-using-plex-media-server/
