Need to hide porn!

lachiklachik Posts: 3Members

Hey guys,

I have several folders on my Plex server: Movies, Series and .. let's say .. Clips ;)
Sometimes, and I know you understand me well here, I need to hide one of the folders (pass-lock could be a way out, but arouse needless interest anyway) not losing all the library data about this folder. Then - one click on PC and the folder appears again in the Plex TV app.

Thanks in advance!

LoL, nothing worse than the wife finding the "stash". I keep mine out of Plex, just seems like a bad idea. :) Good luck!

That would only hide it from the OnDeck and Recently Added.  A curious person might still find it browsing through the libraries.

Yes a feature to enable different folders for a specific person would be nice. I dont know whether there is already a function like this.

There is a parental controls sort of channel designed for this:

While the "LOCK" may work for some people. I choose to create a second free account. This is my family or guest account. I share family friendly content with it and use it on my Roku in the living room. My account with access to everything logs into my iPad and other rooms.

It is more difficult to find what you cannot see. With the LOCK you will always see it.

    Some other options:

    1. If you put your "private" media on an external hard drive and then create a Plex library from a folder on that external drive, whenever the external drive is physically disconnected all of that material is unavailable, but the metadata is still there when you plug the drive back in.

    2. You might be able to do something similar with a partition of an internal drive, but I haven't tried it.  Here's a link that looks useful for hiding/unhiding partitions: http://www.sevenforums.com/general-discussion/11623-how-do-i-hide-specific-drives-partitions-windows-7-a.html

    3. You could run a second media server program on your PMS machine and only have that media available on apps connected to the second server.  I use MediaBrowser in this way to keep Rated R stuff invisible to the kids.

And why dont you make just a porn library which you dont share with other accounts. So in the living room you are using an account which you not share the porn library with.

So if you want to watch porn you use an account where it is shared with. Not the best solution but it would work. Just dont give out the password of the porn account.

Do you know what I do from a life long? I add a library every time I need to watch that kind of movies, then I remove it at the end. That's it.

It asks 5 minutes to make the catalogue and it's ready to go. Then everything disappear when I remove the library. Done, no tracks, no fingerprints, no artworks around.

So there's still no dedicated feature built into PMS to do this and we have to rely on hacks or 3rd party modifications? I would hope to see that the developers incorporate a way to hide/unhide certain sections, or a way to set up permissions without having to modify or hack the system.

PlexHome is a feature built into PMS.

Shared Libraries are a feature built into PMS.

Both of those will allow you to restrict, hide, block, control, limit, bar, inhibit, or otherwise prevent media from being viewed.

Neither of these require any modification or hacking.

Thanks, I'm aware of that but those features are only for Plex Pass members only. What about for those of us without one? Is there a solution? Considering I would have to pay $5 a month to keep this feature, makes it quite pointless for me. Is there a way to purchase a full featured version of Plex unless I would have to get a lifetime membership for $149. Kind of steep.

For plexpass purchases those are your only choices; recurring subscription fee or a single lifetime purchase.

You do not need a PlexPass to use the Shared Library feature... neither do those persons you share your library to.

They will each need an account (free) on plex.tv, but nothing more.

I have been using the Shared Libraries in order to restrict certain Libraries, even within my own house (since PlexHome is still not available on iO/S - six months later - but don't get me started on that).

But how would you use the shared accounts feature, each person makes an account on plex.tv, but when you launch the Plex App on lets say a samsung TV, I don't get a login prompt or screen.

But how would you use the shared accounts feature, each person makes an account on plex.tv, but when you launch the Plex App on lets say a samsung TV, I don't get a login prompt or screen.

That's because you are already logged in to the app with the original account name.

When you want to see only the shared libraries on the Samsung App... you would use the login information for the new shared account.

Samsung is exactly what I use... (of course I now use the PlexHome feature, but that does require PlexPass - Shared Libraries do not)

    Let me explain...

ServerGuy logs in to his plex.tv account and creates a share to a Friend, at which time he chooses what libraries he will or will not be sharing (there's your control)... plex.tv sends an email to that Friend

Friend receives email and creates his own account on plex.tv.

Friend goes to his Samsung TV, installs app (if he hasn't already) and logs in with the same username:password as he created on plex.tv (even if this is within the same household).  It will require Friend to reauthenticate (you know - that four digit pin thing from plex.tv/pin) then you're done.

Samsung now shows only the libraries that ServerGuy shared with Friend.

If you're already using your installed Samsung app, just go to Preferences:System, log out, and then log back in using the plex.tv username:password for Friend.

Go through the Pin exercise (that's why PlexHome's fast user switching is better),

Now your Samsung TV will only show those libraries shared.

You would have to log out and back in again with the original account info to see "all" libraries again.

    Make sense?

The best way is to follow these steps exactly..

    1) Read over and familiarize yourself with the Movie Naming guide provided by the Plex team: https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/200381023-Naming-Movie-files

    2) Navigate to http://www.imdb.com/chart/bottom?ref_=chttp_ql_3and again, familiarize yourself

    3) Choose any combination of the above selection follow the steps provided in step number one

    4) Good luck
