DLNA Profile for Denon 3808-AVR

gcoupegcoupe Posts: 367Members, Plex Pass Plex Pass

Please can someone help me out? I'm beating my head against a brick wall trying to get a working DLNA profile for my Denon 3808-AVR.

I just want it to act as a MediaRenderer for audio, so in theory, the profile should be very simple. I've read through the first post (many times), and although it seems to make sense, the Plex Media server is rejecting my DLNA profile.

The server log says:

Nov 11, 2014 16:52:46:089 [8764] DEBUG - Reading user client profile Network Audio
Nov 11, 2014 16:52:46:089 [8764] ERROR - ClientProfileReader::readMusicProfile - Missing codec attribute
Nov 11, 2014 16:52:46:089 [8764] ERROR - ClientProfileReader::readMediaProfiles - Unable to read MusicProfile element
Nov 11, 2014 16:52:46:089 [8764] ERROR - ClientProfileReader::readProfile - unable to read DirectPlayProfiles element
Nov 11, 2014 16:52:46:089 [8764] ERROR - Unable to read client profile file: C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Local\Plex Media Server\Profiles\Network Audio.xml

The client profile that I have is:

<?xml version="1.0"?>
<Client name="Network Audio">
<Identification>
<DeviceDescription type="urn:schemas-upnp-org:device:MediaRenderer:1">
<FriendlyName substring="Network Audio" />
<Manufacturer substring="DENON" />
<ModelName substring="AVR-3808" />
<ModelNumber substring="3808" />
</DeviceDescription>
</Identification>

<Settings>
<Setting name="AlbumArtPn" value="JPEG_SM" />
<Setting name= "AlbumArtResolution" value="480x480" />
</Settings>
<DirectPlayProfiles>
<MusicProfile container="mp3" audioCodec="mp3" />
<MusicProfile container="flac" audioCodec="flac" />
<MusicProfile container="wma" audioCodec="wma" />
</DirectPlayProfiles>
</Client>

What is wrong with the DirectPlayProfiles section? Thanks.

    The only thing stopping it from reading properly is you have audioCodec instead of codec for the MusicProfiles.

    Just change:

    <DirectPlayProfiles>
    <MusicProfile container="mp3" audioCodec="mp3" />
    <MusicProfile container="flac" audioCodec="flac" />
    <MusicProfile container="wma" audioCodec="wma" />
    </DirectPlayProfiles>

    to

    <DirectPlayProfiles>

    <MusicProfile container="mp3" codec="mp3" />
    <MusicProfile container="flac" codec="flac" />
    <MusicProfile container="wma" codec="wma" />

    </DirectPlayProfiles

    I would also recommend a transcode target just in case you hit some file that isn't one of the above 3.

    Terrific. Thanks very much.

    Yes, I'll probably need a Transcode section, because the Denon doesn't understand WMA Lossless, and I'd need to transcode to pcm. I'll try and tackle that another day...

    When you do go to try and tackle it, just a friendly hint the transcoder does not refer to PCM as PCM, it is going to (more than likely) be pcm_s16be (usually LPCM) or pcm_s16le

    This is the target from the PS3 profile which should match up well for you (I removed the video/photo targets and comments, and the setting I left in may be optional for you):

    <TranscodeTargets>
        <MusicProfile container="s16be" codec="pcm_s16be">
             <Setting name="EstimateContentLength" value="true" />
        </MusicProfile>
      </TranscodeTargets>

    Once again, thanks very much. I'll file this away for future reference...

    Perhaps I'm not understanding this correctly, but even though the Plex Server is reporting that it has successfully parsed the client profile for the Denon, I still am not seeing the Denon show up as a player within the Plex Windows 8.1 or Windows Phone clients.

    Is the Plex system not designed to handle a DLNA Media Renderer in this fashion?

    Sorry, I misread what you were trying to do at the start.

    You're trying to basically 'cast' or 'fling' media to the Denon?

    If that is the case, no it will not work solely with Plex.  You will need to use an app such as BubbleUPNP which acts a DMC(Media Controller), The only thing Plex will act that way for is Plex Apps(and not all of them support it yet) or Chromecast.

    Ah, OK, thanks for the clarification. Pity about the Plex limitation.
