[Feature Request] Set your own series order

Now, obviously slap me down if I’m wrong or have missed this request…

Plex knows the order in which to play TV series based on info from TVDB. I’ve just purchased Firefly and those that know will know that the last episode to air was, in fact, the pilot and (correctly) appears first on the DVDs. Plex, by default, chooses aired order, but there is a DVD order agent if you prefer DVD order.

It’s fantastic that PMS is able to grab so much info from agents, but it should not be hamstrung by their info. We can change everything else very easily, but play order seems to be a problem.

So, the ability to choose the order in which things happen. And could this be combined with film and TV show orders (Firefly and ■■■ and the City come to mind, but I’m sure there’s plenty more - How to Train Your Dragon, Star Wars - see there’s loads!)?

Having to install the plugin to get DVD order was enough of a pita and is not at all easy with a NAS plex server. This has become a real problem for Star Wars Rebels for example which tvdb have locked in a stupid order with one episode taken out of series 2.

Can we have a text file in the series folder than sets a mapping from theirs to our preferred order without needing a plugin?

Setting our own series order especially if it can easily insert special episodes that fall in between seasons.

Some shows, I like to watch in continuity order, which is impossible for me to do when using tvdb’s order.

Would really like some help on this. I’ve only just started using Plex and want it to play the shows in order.

Worst case in my library so far is Kim Possible. To make the show play in the right order I have to manually rename the episodes on the hard drive and this causes Plex to only show them as Episode 1, Episode 2 instead of the actual titles of the episodes even though I have named them as Plex suggests.

Is there any way to get Plex to list them in the correct order with full metadata?

I create a playlist and place them in my preferred order. That is a Pita as well, but it works. Would love to have the option to set our own viewing order. Especially when often times seasons opening episodes make their way in to the “specials” seasons.

2022 clean-up: implemented (previous and current generation Plex agents allow setting the episode order per library and to override that for individual shows).
