Can we learn more about Opus vs MP3 and why it was chosen as the new CC transcode format?

I have no opinions either way, I'm just curious as to why the switch was made. Better performance in transcode? Better quality sound at higher - or lower? - bitrates? Just wondering why it was done. I see there's a #4805 next to it but I can't find a bug tracker for Plex that might have more details.

(It should also be noted that Google have dropped support for AAC 5.1 channel sound on Chromecasts v2 and onwards - oddly v1 still supports AAC 5.1. See here - https://issuetracker.google.com/issues/69112577#comment4 ) AC3 and E-AC3 can still be passed through but even Google are recommending using OPUS for 5.1 channel sound.
