How to Add an additional HD Homerun (morphed from "Beta 3 timeline?")

Edit:

This morphed into a guide on how to add an additional hd homerun tuner. See the later comments on this thread.

Legacy comment:
How far out is beta 3?

No one knows for sure but Plex…but, based on Elan’s comment here I’d guess it’s days away considering we’re at the 2 week mark now from when Beta 2 dropped. Just a hunch.

that’s good to know, i like a more predictable beta release schedule. i think every couple weeks is a pretty good cadence

The only thing I know is I will be disappointed if the next beta release is not called ā€œDVR Hard with a Vengeanceā€.

We’re hoping to unleash Beta 3 soon, but can’t give a specific date. The response for Plex DVR has been huuuuge, so you can expect the elves are working hard to bring this feature to prime time.

Just so you know, I’ve installed Beta Two, Bought an HDHomeRun EXTEND, a small cheap antenna from Monocable and popped it in the window as a test. Based on that preliminary test, I’ve purchased a SolidSignal HDB91X, 10 feet of MT, an 8’ grounding rod, 100’ of quad shield RG6. Now I wait for Beta 3!!!

I’d say it’s been huuuuuge since after the announcement you caused the HDHomerun devices to be sold out in a LOT of places on the internet! I found that pretty impressive. Luckily I have owned my Prime device and Extend device for a few years now. I am ready to be able to use both of these with the Plex DVR!

Love the DVR, but don’t overwork the elves. We also need them on Christmas!

They’ll be amped up and ready, thanks to energy drinks!

Not long now…

I’m still running Beta 1. It seems to do everything it was intended to do as per the documentation. I tried Beta 2 and neither the guide or recording schedule would display. Just a spinning circle.

I still get the occasional aborted recording. I have caught it when it happens and it is indeed an issue with the tuner. The green tuner light will blink for 20 seconds or so then give up. I suspect this is an SDV error which I have been getting from time to time since TWC moved even more channels to SDV.

So new beta releases for me are solely for additional features or functionality which I know will come in due time.

My big one is secure CableCARD support… One can hope right? Unfortunately, without it, this DVR cannot be a Windows Media Center replacement for me. Just a toy to tinker with.

What do you mean by ā€˜secure’ CableCARD? I am using an HDHomeRun Prime with a Comcast CableCARD with Plex DVR.

I’m guessing the plex team uses agile as it is pretty much standard fare for programing in today’s industry. That said, it is just a matter of figuring out their sprint cycle. 2 weeks seems like a good guess as that was what separated the first two releases. However, the timing of the first could have been delayed or shifted. The next release will be a better indication of their sprint cycle length.

I’m assuming copy-once channels - TWC and other providers flags copy once on most non-local channels in many markets which adds another layer of DRM. The only way to view & record copy-once channels using the HDHRP is through Windows Media Center (a few platforms that support DTCP-IP can view live channels only).

What ^ said. I’m a former Time Warner, now Spectrum (yes, I officially called and converted my price plan to the Gold tier to gain three channels that TWC never carried), and still 95% of my active 581 channels are DRM CopyOnce protected. I have a pending complaint filed with the FCC which I’m sure has already been round filed at TWC.

One additional note to anyone on TWC, if you convert to the Spectrum plan 1) be prepared to spend all day getting all your services working again up to and including a couple of visits to the cable store to replace a CableCARD or two and 2) Charter has no interest in internet speed over 100Mbps (a very good thing IMHO). So if you have the 200x20 Mbps speed like I did (I only had it for Plex and the 20 up), you will be bumped down to the 100. If you really want the 20 up, you will have to cough up an additional $40 per month for the 300x20. I was also told that comes with a one time $200 activation fee by one rep.

So… Charter isn’t into cord cutters! I love it! I’m a ā€œcord stackerā€ as they say. But I would like my 20 upload back since those are seperate frequencies that don’t cut into the downstream channels…

@gregw74 Does a ā€œmodifiedā€ comment trigger an email (since the mod is only updating the single comment)? Or does it take a new comment in that thread?
