I was watching a Highly EXPLICIT Adult movie which I did not finish. Days (yes DAYS!) later, i opened Plex on my huge LED TV to let my 5 yo grand daughter watch a CHILDREN'S MOVIE.
To my Absolute HORROR!!! a very explicit still from the movie I was watching APPEARED ON DECK!!! While my grand daughter was watching! JESUS CHRIST!!!
I quickly selected any show I could go to FAST and ran it
. I am absolutely FURIOUS that Plex developers Insist they KNOW WHAT WE WANT AND GIVE US NO WAY TO DISABLE ON DECK!!

And DON'T say "set up different accounts". I tried and had zero success.

I know you guys are genius programmers to have developed a fantastic program like Plex. And thanks for letting us use for free! Surely it cannot be too difficult to program in the ability to disable ON DECK?

Put all of those movies in their own library (you can have several movie libraries) and when you create that new library go to advanced and chose to not include it, see here for more help -

"Include in dashboard" is the one you want to remove.

i did that. In fact i deleted the library when I stopped watching like I always do. Why does it still appear in on deck?

  • DL8698DL8698 Members Posts: 21 ✭✭

Actually I find no use at all for on deck.
If I want to continue to watch recently watched movie I select Recently Watched
If I want to watch recently added movie I select Recently Added.
And so on and so forth......
So why do I need on deck?

There is no other way than prev mentioned to remove items from on deck, afaik. So, keep adult movies in a separate library (no need to delete) that you have chosen to not include in the dashboard and all kids movies in another library. Create a kids user account (with a dummy email), share the kids library with that account, ensure that the local LAN requires login for each client that connects locally and logon to your client with that kids account whenever they visit.

There also should be a way to expand "On Deck." That is I would like at least twice or three times the number that most apps currently display in "On Deck" for my system. Currently the only client that I use regularly that shows more that the first 40ish "On Deck" items is the discontinued RARflix for Roku. (It shows at least 100) The current Roku app as well as the ones for the Fire TV and Shield TV and even PMP on the Raspberry PI all are limited on in their "On Deck" length.

I disable "Include in Dashboard" for all movies but I have it enabled for the TV libraries. I sometimes start a series watch a few episodes and then may not watch it again for weeks or months. I would like those shows to stay in "On Deck" as I do not really want to dig into my rather large library to try and remember the shows I have started.

Also often shows I am recording that go on a hiatus for off season or other reasons will not appear in my "On Deck" when they return unless I use RARflix.

I do not use "Recently Added" at all. I guess it could have a use for the hiatus shows but I forget to go to the "more" on it when I am looking for a TV show to work.

That brings me to the whole "Hub" idea. This addition of the "hubs" is mostly OK BUT Plex should give the users the ability to turn any of them OFF. For me the only "Hub" I have any use for is "On Deck" and others have no use for it.

This is where Plex does not listen to their users. Choice would fix a LOT of the problems people have with the various interfaces. But Plex is VERY anti-choice and every time it gets brought up they through out some platitude about it being too hard and/or too complex. I rarely find that argument to be valid. With good programming a LOT of the choices, like the ability to turn "Hubs" off, would be VERY easy assuming that the main program was not written in "job security" mode.

Plex "can" give the users choice in a LOT of areas but they don't because they choose not to. They obviously think they need to make all the choices for the users because the users are just too stupid to handle the complexities that choice brings.

You can choose the number of weeks that items are reviewed for on deck. I have mine set for 52 weeks (settings/server/library)

Of course you can! I set mine at 104. But that still does not allow more than 40ish items to appear. In RARflix I see 95-105 items in "On Deck" but in all the new apps I see only the first 40ish ones. Plex has chosen to hard code small limits in their apps (or maybe the server limits it in a way that RARflix avoids) and they claim it is too hard to expand it but RARflix works well with a lot more so I don't buy it being "too hard."

i have unchecked the include in dashboard for ALL my libraries. Have not yet check if this gives me totally NO ON DECK. My grand daughter is at the tv and I can't subject her to another look of the xxx picture if this does not work!
IF... each library can have ITS OWN choice to opt out of on deck, is it really, REALLY too difficult to make the choice available in SETTINGS so that every library can be excluded from on deck with a single check box?

I am sure they don't think we are THAT stupid since they think we know how to
    1. create a kid's user account with dummy email (I struggled with this with no success)
    2. share the kid's library with that account (have no idea how to do this)
    3. ensure that local LAN requires login for each client (have absolutely no idea how to do this)

I guess I am one of the few Stupid users!

Plex has determined what works best for them and that, by default (through their infinite wisdom) makes it perfect for every Man, Woman and ( 8 year old) Child on the face of this Earth. All those in opposition to Plex's vast knowledge of The Human Animal are whiners and trouble makers. There is no need for 'switches' *. It's already perfect. Exactly all you need is already provided.

Like everything else that makes sense to add to a media player / server....

This will also not get done..

Check back in 3 years and we will still be asking for this!!!!

Totally agree. I would love to get rid of On Deck too!

I have no clue what purpose "On Deck" Serves.

It should be removed or an option.

    Good Luck

There are a number of us that use "On Deck" extensively. When I start watching a TV show I access the "next" episode from "On Deck" exclusively. I have "Include in dashboard" enabled for only TV as I see no purpose for any dashboard functions for movies.

For me the "hubs" like "recently added" or "continue watching" or every one EXCEPT "On Deck" are useless.

That is why Plex, from the start of this poorly conceived "improvement" should have given the option for any of the hubs to be turned off.

But Plex does not believe in choice because their users, in Plex's belief, are too stupid to handle choice or their (Plex's) developers simply cannot handle the complexity of providing choices.

Each user has a varied belief in how they want to access their media but Plex is so anti-choice that I doubt we will ever have much more choice than we have now.

Plex wants their app to be the media equivalent of tract housing made out of ticky tacky:

    Little boxes on the hillside,
Little boxes made of ticky tacky,
    Little boxes on the hillside,
    Little boxes all the same.
There's a green one and a pink one
And a blue one and a yellow one,
And they're all made out of ticky tacky
And they all look just the same

From the first verse of "Little Boxes" by Malvina Reynolds

I thought Pete Seeger did little boxes.

    Guess I was wrong.

    Still lovin' your quotes.

For me recently added is the most useful.
Primarily because it lets my remote users know what has been added.

    LOL
I could do without continue watching and on deck

No, you are right: Pete Seeger performed "Little Boxes" (and so did an early Petter, Paul and Mary and many others even Bob Dylan performed it in concert at least once) but Malvina Reynolds wrote it.

Malvina was a pretty great writer and many of her songs live on through the artists that performed them.
Some notes about "Little Boxes" from:
    http://people.wku.edu/charles.smith/MALVINA/mr094.htm
    1. The term "ticky tacky" is now included in the Oxford English Dictionary, and credited to Malvina.
    2. Seeger's recording reached as high as number seventy on Billboard and number seventy-two on Cashbox in early 1964.
    3. The Womenfolk's version peaked at number eighty-three on Billboard and number ninety-six on Cashbox in May 1964.

I use On Deck for TV Shows as well, but since Plex hog tied On Deck and castrated it on The Evening News then fried and ate the nuts drenched in 'Frank's Red Hot' (they put that s*&t on everything), while On Deck was still kicking and screaming in the background, by removing Movies from it, On Deck has become an enormous PITA. Not so much for it's ability to deliver ONLY TV Shows, but because every time I see it in one of these horrific new apps, then see the same partially watched TV Episode that's On Deck in Continue Watching I am reminded just how incredibly stupid that was and how it reached the apex of poor design by removing the ability to Continue Watching a Movie in progress unless you have less than 3 in progress and ONLY if you haven't left a TV Show in progress as well.

Thankfully RARflix still shows Movies in progress in it's On Deck and that is at least one of the reasons RARflix remains one of the best Plex apps ever developed. Unfortunately for all us, when Plex hired RARflix's developer they threaten the same treatment they gave to On Deck by shaking the Frank's Red Hot bottle when the now lead developer in the Roku Wing at Plex even starts thinking about making improvements to these Horrendous new apps.

I do have to admit hiring the aforementioned developer was a fit of pure genius that Plex somehow stumbled into because clearly it could not have been a planned maneuver. Plex has demonstrated time and again they are incapable of making good decisions on the behalf of the users, but by some twist of good fortune Roku now enjoys the top spot in stable, albeit loathesome Plex apps due to his skill/experience level.

BTW, @Elijah_Baley , your use of that 'Switch' is a sound one any user should be able to make for many things, but it is a miracle Plex hasn't found out about it yet or..... we'd see them sprinkling it with Frank's Red Hot on live Television!

I absolutely LOVE on deck! It's the only way I keep track of my TV shows i'm viewing and it automatically pops up new episodes of the shows I watch as they get added. on deck is the best feature on plex in my opinion hands down and would be devastated without it. If something is in your on deck that you don't watch then mark it as watched and it will be gone end of story. You can even go and mark it unwatched again and it still wont show up without you starting it again.

I have 9 different plex accounts/users and 7 have pin codes, never experienced a single issue creating additional users - literally took all of 30 seconds. This would solve your porn problem.

If on deck was to be removed how easy do you feel it would be to track 15 different TV shows that you watch and know where you were in each one? On deck doesnt make sense for movies but it sure as heck does for TV shows. If they could just fix the "recently addd" tv shows we'd be golden...
