tmr0861tmr0861 Posts: 8Members, Plex Pass Plex Pass

Running Roku Plex app v4.3 build 2.

I used to have 30 second skip forward and 10 seconds backward. Now it is 10 and 10.

Please bring it back!

Thanks!!

It's still there. During playback, a single press of the FWD button will skip 30 seconds and resume, while a single press of the RWD button will rewind 10 seconds and resume. The left and right buttons will increment in -10/+10 seconds.

I would prefer a 2 minute skip. That seems to be about the minimum for a commercial break.

That is the problem. Normally i want to skip 2-3 minutes of commercials. If I press fwd, it buffers 30 seconds and then I have to repeat it 6 times with a buffering delay each time. I used to be able to press right button 6 times and it would quickly skip 3 minutes. Now I have to press right button 18 times to skip ahead 3 minutes of commercials. It would be more user friendly if left and right buttons incremented -10/+30 seconds.

I just picked up a ROKU ultra, partly to trial DTV NOW and partly because the PLEX client on my VIZIO TV has a bug that plays colesed caption on some content without control. The app is updated from PLEX (or so they say) but VIZIO has no plans to distribute (TV is 2 years old).

Any update on fixing this 30 skip problem. I'm beginning to live my worst fears of all this "cobble together" entertainment services where nothing really works when it's all put together and no one steps up to solve anything. You know, the reality gap that exists between marketing and implementation!

I noticed with the recent Roku Plex Pass preview client update that the FF/RW buttons no longer skip forward 30-seconds or back 10-seconds on first press. The FF/RW functions are much more responsive so it is not that much of an issue but I wanted to find out if this is a feature or if the prior functionality will be restored.

If you hold down the D-Pad Right button - you get a scrub. If you have Video Preview Thumbs on - you know exactly where you are.

I believe this response is incorrect for this category as it references X-box D-Pad controls and not Roku.

But it is the same on the Roku. Right arrow pressed during playback pops up the "indexes" and you know exactly where you are in the video as you progress through the file. A single right arrow press jumps about 30 seconds forward pressing and holding it moves through file fairly quickly stopping when the arrow is released.

The FF and RW behave similarly at three different rates but require a keypress to stop the movement.

For the indexes to appear they have to be enabled for the library involved and they have to have been generated. You can tell if a given video has indexes by, in the web interface, looking at the "info" and seeing if there is a line saying "Indexes sd" under that "part" column.

BTW: I am pretty sure @JuiceWSA was talking about the Roku not the X-Box

I have three different Roku devices and none allow the 30 second forward with a single click. My Samsung Tv's Plex app allows a nice single click 30 second forward, so I know it's possible. Would love for the Roku client to do the same.

Have you even tried the right arrow. I know that a single press of the right arrow moves forward and I think that the amount moved is 30 seconds, but it could be 10, either way pressing the right arrow then play will jump you forward in the video.

It works fine for me on three different Rokus.

Not any more. A single quick press of the FF button throws the app into 1x FF.

Its BS. I believe the Roku wing at Plex is under new management. There is no way something this fundamental and long running would have been overlooked or flat out omitted by the previous team leader.

This reeks of standard Plex procedure. Hammer something together, half baked, release it and move on to mess up something else.

Quality, caring and attention to details have gone bye-bye.

If it hasn't happened already, the Roku app is going to devolve into the same substandard and generally disliked half working apps all other devices now enjoy.

    ...

I don't know who you were replying to but if it was me then I have to say I was not talking about the FF button but rather about the right arrow and that still works correctly.

Personally I prefer the current functionally. When I press FF, no matter how long, I expect that FF is what will happen not a skip that requires me to remember to hold the button.

Maybe this is another place where the user needs choice. But we know what Plex's position on choice is, don't we?

Choice? Surely you jest. Elijah, not Shirley.

I, and apparently many others, prefer the quick press of FF to produce the 30 sec skip, a longer press producing faster increments of FF.

That's the way it's been for years. So it should remain lest folks think developers are daft or incompetent.

I am irritated with this change as well. The 30 sec skip was handy for skipping past the intros of TV shows I've seen 1000 times. The Skip Back moved to the replay button on my Ultra which makes sense and eventually I'll retrain myself and stop hitting rewind, but the change in Skip Forward functionality is maddening.. having the stream pause while you hit the right arrow, and then having to hit OK to resume playing.

A single press of the right arrow of a show being watched via time shift (currently recording) only advances 10 seconds and there are NO "index skip frames" for a current program being recorded. Yes they exist AFTER the show recording completes but not in a time shifted real time recording. I often watch shows this way. I'll start an hour long show 30 minutes late so I don't have to wait through commercials. VERY ANNOYING behavior here.

This change is single-handedly going to force me to change players. It drives me absolutely nuts.

Development is under the false impression that 3 Video Preview Thumbs (if you have them turned on) is equal to 30 seconds. They are not.
Development is also under the impression that 5 to 15 clicks is as easy as 1. They are not.
The result of this poor development choice is that what once was an easy 30 second skip forward - or 10 seconds back - is an adventure into 'random, anyone's guess' at where you'll end up, most times ending up in the middle of a sentence requiring backing up into the section you wanted to skip, so you can catch the place you wanted to catch - which used to be easy, but now is almost impossible.

'New and Improved' in the Plexiverse may be New, but is never Improved.

    Balderdash.

Sorry - 3 button presses is NOT 30 seconds. Stop trying to spread the absolute ridiculous assumption that it is.
The Previous 30 second skip was 30 seconds.

@JuiceWSA I'll bite :) pressing left and right should increment in steps of -10/+10. This means we'll tell the player to seek 30 seconds if you pressed right 3 times and then play/ok. It would be the same if we intercepted the fwd button and told the player to seek 30 seconds. With that said, the roku firmware will attempt seek to the the requested spot, however that could be a few seconds off. If direct played, then it's usually pretty accurate, however if the video is transcoded, it could be off my more.

Maybe I'm missing the joke or point though. Do you have more details when you stay it's not 30 seconds?
