problem viewing h265 encoded mkv on lg smart tv

Hi,

I have a new LG 49UH603V tv.
The tv support HEVC (h265) but trying to play an hevc encoded movie using webos plex client result in the plex server trying to transcode it (server cpu 100% and no way to play the movie on the client).

There is a way to see h265 without transcoding?
Thanks,
Riccardo

The WebOS Plex app dose not support HEVC, while the TV dose. It's not implemented in the Official Plex app for WebOS. But luckily for the LG community, there is a Third party app called xPLay. In xPlay, HEVC is supported. Unluckily, it cost money.

I have given xPlay a spin and it works perfectly! It's about $10.

    Well worth it.

How do I get xPlay on my LG? I couldn't find it in the LG app link.

That's embarrassing. If XPLAY can do it why not Plex?? It's high time that PLEX addresses DIRECT PLAY of x265 HEVC in whatever container, mp4, mkv or otherwise. XPLAY on LG's WebOS flawlessly Direct Plays 10bit x265 HEVC in mkv container without the need for the Plex server to transcode anything. That's just embarrassing.

Buy a Roku Premier+ and be done with it. I wasted time for months trying to get my 4K Vizios built in Plex app to work properly, not worth the time.

I would suggest to read this discussion and any on changing a profile file. As for a Roku maybe a good solution if the Roku is reliable. Roku 3 was tremendous , but discussions have mentioned other model troublesome.

Do you mean an LG DLNA profile file to direct play across DLNA, or a profile file to direct play using LG Plex client app?

Hey HEVC direct playback is now fixed. Give it a go.
