Should this setup be freezing whilst playing 4k?

Hi all,

I'm playing a 61GB MKV 4k 5.1 HEVC file and it keeps freezing very 10 seconds or so

I take a look at the server and it's 100% utilised

But my question is should it be?

My spec is this:

Sever; HP Gen8 microserver with Xeon E3-1265L v3, with 16GB ram,

Client: xbox one S

And there is a GB connection between them

Also, I have the same file on my Cloud Server and it plays fine!

I have set the transcoder quality to auto and low to see if it makes a diff and turned off direct play and stream on the Xbox with no change

Please help :-(

Your server is buffering due to transcoding.
Not many boxes can support 4K (H.265) transcoding.

You need to encode your media so it won't transcode.

Generally the format mp4 / H.265 / AC3 (No Subtitles) will direct play to 4K enabled devices.

Not sure about Xbox. Does the Xbox support 4K??

If no you will need to encode a 1080p version for non 4K clients
    IE: mp4 / h.264 / AC3 or AAC

Also lower that ridiculously high bitrate to something more reasonable....

    Hi, thanks for the reply,

Yea the Xbox one "S" is 4k,

I have tried to use the PLEX optimiser on the 4k files (keeping quality at origin) and this seems to make alot of difference,

It is now not freezing when playing the optimised files, I took a look at the server whilst its playing and it says that now the Video is directly streaming but the audio is still transcoding, its this what should happen, or should they both just stream?

That would imply that the audio encoding is not compatible with the Xbox but the video is. Not really a problem as audio transcoding is not very intensive.
