There were fixes in 1.7.2 that affect Roku which is why I'd like to see if people still have issues.

Got ya. I got a barbecue to go to. I may upgrade (and get a plex pass) afterwards. Will post logs if still having the issue

This error has been seriously irritating me for the last week and a half. Where do I get 1.7.2 for the Synology NAS with Arm 7 processor. PMS says my version is up to date, going to the download servers shows the same, 1.5.6 is the newest version available. Would love to get this resolved and working my ROKU again.

Version 1.7.2 is Plex-Pass only for now.

Same issue present on 1.7.2 for me. QNAP Intel 64-bit build.

I have a Roku, this used to work fine and now I'm getting the same error. This is now on a fresh install of Linux (openSUSE) and Version 1.5.6.3790 of PMS.

Streaming works fine over my home network to my Windows machines, just the Roku gives the "not enough bandwidth" error.

    Any help would be appreciated.

Any word on when this is going to see public release for us non-Plex Pass people out here? Works perfectly on everything except for the Roku. I currently can't stream 75% of my movies to my Roku because of this. I have been stuck using the Plex app on my Samsung Smart TV, which works, but sucks compared to the Roku app.

Is the problem the PMS, or is it the Roku app? Anybody have a clue? Guessing it's PMS since the problem seems to have started after updating that.

ANYBODY HAVE SOME MIDOL FOR THIS PMS HEADACHE??!!

Just to add that I think this is really poor. Trying to watch a movie from a Plex media server on a Raspberry Pi via Rocku gives me stuttering and transcoding issues so I rebuild on a much more powerful machine only to be presented with this error. This is a really basic thing I want to do - watch a movie on a home network. I think this is pretty unacceptable for a piece of paid software.

    Ya reckon this will help?:

    Plex Log Files:
    https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/200250417-Plex-Media-Server-Log-Files
Drag zip to message window and drop it.

    (well... it's worth a shot)

Hi, I get the same issue but not on roki.

I use the computer running plex media server to play directly as its the family computer. So no network stream or remote playing. Playing the media on the plex media server, through its monitor.

When I try to play plex media directly on the computer which plex media server is installed, I get a not enough bandwidth error.

I have always used the plex web site through google chrome to play the content. the URL is the computers IP. If I change the plex URL from the computesr IP to localhost it will work fine.

    Any one help?

I tried down grading but get errors of missing codec's.

Problem also exists on current version when I try to use Android devices (running current version of PLEX) remotely over a 50 mbs 4G connection. When I return home, and I'm back on WiFi, everything is good again? Very strange.....

    Same here. Really frustrating.

For me this started happening when I upgraded to 1.7.x. I've tried a few versions but casting to Chromecast is now BROKEN with this annoying error message.

Worth noting that for me local media casts perfectly fine. I only encounter this error when I cast a remote stream from a plugin like CBC or IPTV, etc..

I'm going to try downgrading and report back.

Been happening to my parents Plex/Roku Stick since upgrading from 1.5 to 1.7.5

  • +1 here, just started happening today for me too, not on Roku (whatever that is). Plex 1.7.5 on Mac.

OK, since PMS V 1.7.5.4035 is now public release, I can confirm that NO, the bandwidth error message issue with Roku is NOT fixed. I have done some troubleshooting, and can get past this error by changing settings in the Roku, but it's not desirable, as it messes up my playback of a lot of things on Netflix.

The problem for me is related to AUDIO encoding. Since everything is run directly from the Roku to my TV via HDMI, I only have stereo output, and the Roku knows this. The Roku WAS set to auto select the audio over HDMI, and it would auto select stereo output. When ever I tried to play a video through PLEX that had anything other than stereo encoding, I would get the Not Enough Bandwidth error message.

By manually changing the Roku HDMI Audio setting to Dolby D+, DTS instead of auto, I could successfully play MOST of the videos that would previously give me the bandwidth error. Unfortunately, there are a few movies which now do not get the error, but take FOREVER to buffer and continuously re-buffer during playback, making them unwatchable. These movies that buffer constantly NEVER had a problem before all this Bandwidth Error message crap started.

The unfortunate part about changing the audio setting on the Roku is that now any videos on Netflix that are 5.1 encoded no longer have sound during playback. In order to get sound, I have to manually change the audio within each individual movie/TV show from 5.1 to stereo EVERY TIME I try to watch something; not a desirable situation to say the least.

Hopefully this can help whomever is doing the programming of this to try to determine what changed in the PMS software, or the Roku Plex Player, that screwed everything up a few versions back...

Having this issue myself on a new Plex install. Posted about it in the other Roku stick thread, but here it is again for attention:

Same issue here with a brand new Plex install on Ubuntu 17.04. Plex version 1.7.6.4058.
Web play works fine, but neither of my Rokus will play anything with 5.1 audio.

I keep getting the fun "Not enough bandwidth for any playback of this item. Cannot convert to below minimum bandwidth of 103kbps. Neither direct play nor conversion is available."
