3D movie playback doesn't work on Sony - Android 6

HudsonHudson Members, Plex Pass Posts: 8 Plex Pass

How can I playback my 3D movies in Plex (5.9.3.65) on my KDL-50W507C ?.... no matter what workaround I use, the TV says "Function not supported"

Also, all files are named .Half-SBS.mp4 and made in 1080p

Could I be the only one with this problem... ?????

    What is your PMS Client??
I have had this issue when the Client streams at full resolution not allowing for the fact that 3D is actually 720p
If the client puts out full 1080p for a 3D stream that forces the TV to 1080p the TV cannot support the 3D function.

Not sure if I explained that very well.

    Does that make sense??

If you are using the Native App for the TV then there is a bug.

An external device such as a shield etc. device settings need to be looked at I think.

My PMS is running on a Netgear Readynas

It worked perfectly (via SideView workaround) before the TV was updated to Android V6 (The Plex client didn't react to the filename Half-SBS. or h-sbs. to change to 3D automatically, - .. this have never worked)

Do you think I should try converting the movies to 720p ?

I'm using the latest Native Plex client 5.9.3.65 on the TV

I suspect the Plex Client or TV software.
It's not the PMS I am pretty sure.

The auto set to 3D has never worked for me on any TV.

I'll check some things out here for you when I get a chance.

Re-encoding to 720p I do not think will help.

Did these 3D media files work before the update??

Were they ripped properly in the 1st place..

Yes .... the mediafiles played perfectly via the native Plex app, before V6 ...... just had to enable 3D via the SideView remote app after starting the movie.

    Hmmm.
    Try rolling back the update.
But knowing Sony.. you prolly can't

    Looks like Sony broke it.

    Try calling Sony Support..

Good luck with that. I spent a month on the phone with Sony one day and got nowhere.

Possibly the Plex App for Android can be checked and updated.

Hopefully a Plex Support type can answer that for us.

Now I am a little worried, My Sony just updated software. Have not checked if my 3D still works either.
    Crap..

I might be OK since I actually use a Roku to stream Plex to the Bravia.
I gotta check it out now.

You might need to do something like that to get 3D back.

You're absolutely right... I CAN'T roll back ... !!!!! .... They don't have any downloads of prior firmware versions .. (was running Android 5.1.1 before)

So apparently Sony made it so the authors of native apps have to enable 3D mode from within their app (you can no longer use the 3D button hack or call up Action Menu (since 3D is missing there).

I am afraid this will be left to Plex devs to address ;/
