Plex Media Server -> Roku Stick (3600X) - "Not enough bandwidth for any playback of this item"

hampfamilyhampfamily Posts: 2Members, Plex Pass Plex Pass

All of a sudden I have started to get the following message when playing media to any of my Roku 3600X devices

"Not enough bandwidth for any playback of this item. Cannot convert to below minimum bandwidth of 103kbps. Neither direct play nor conversion is available."

I have more than enough bandwidth available (local network is fast, internet is ~100Mb download / ~10Mb upload). I've NEVER played with the bandwidth settings before now. But have gone in and set maximums well above what is required and still see the bandwidth issues. Please note that I was able to play the same media files flawlessly a week or so ago.

I have updated to the latest server software (plexmediaserver-1.7.5.4035-313f93718.x86_64). I enabled verbose logging and have captured the relevant logs. Any suggestions? This is really putting a cramp in my media consumption habit

Turn off verbose logging, it only fills up the logs unnecessarily. If a dev/ninja requests it, turn it back on.

Complete logs are really needed for complete troubleshooting - I'd disable verbose logging, restart the Plex Server, then use the Roku Plex app to get the problem to happen again, then download the logs via server -> help, download logs, and attach them to your next post, along with the name of the file you tried to play.

Looking at the snippet you posted, it looks like the Plex client app on the Roku is telling the server that direct play is not supported (perhaps disabled in the app), the resolution of the original file is too large to be displayed on the screen, and there is a playback bandwidth limit set in the Plex Server.

    Where are my log files?

How do I properly name my media files?

Your naming is nowhere near what Plex requires for optimal agent scanning. You might want to review the naming convention in the FAQ pages and get your media named properly.

I'm getting the same error. If I force direct play, the movies will play, but without any audio. Otherwise, i just get the error above. This is happening on a Roku Stick (3600X), and the bandwidth should be more than enough. Additionally, this is all happening on our home network. We are not trying to stream outside of the house.

    Server Version is Version 1.7.5.4035

On the server, in Settings/WEB, Direct Play and Direct Stream are enabled. On the Client, Direct Play is set to AUTOMATIC. Any ideas? I think this is an Audio issue, but not sure how to resolve it.

I have the same issue running version 1.7.4.4035 with Roku3.

"Not enough bandwidth for any playback of this item. Cannot convert to below minimum bandwidth of 103kbps. Neither direct play nor conversion is available."

No issue with Amazon Fire, Web Browser, Plex Client on same local network. Even attempted to tune the Plex app on the Roku to reduce quality down to 320 kpbs with no success.

I'm seeing this on my Brother's Plex environment (Plex client on a Roku Stick). Anyone have any ideas?

Same problem ongoing in this thread. I've come up with a workaround that might help others. Hopfully this problem can be resolved, as it's been ongoing for some time now, but it seems to be slowly effecting more and more people...

Same issue here with a brand new Plex install on Ubuntu 17.04. Plex version 1.7.6.4058.
Web play works fine, but neither of my Rokus will play anything with 5.1 audio.

I keep getting the fun "Not enough bandwidth for any playback of this item. Cannot convert to below minimum bandwidth of 103kbps. Neither direct play nor conversion is available."

Unfortunately, the workaround doesn't always work....
