What the **** guys?! How many times do I need to show this before it gets fixed?

ionblueionblue Posts: 506Members, Plex Pass Plex Pass

Seriously, I don't don't know what you guys are doing, but you're not paying attention to the problems. This should be an easy one. I've reported it several times now. At random when the screensaver starts it changes the damn screen size or something and the only way to correct is to quit and start it again. What the **** is going on over there??

Don't ask for logs cause I've sent them several times already. If you take the time to read the **** posts.

MacOS 10.12.5. This isn't new. I've posted at least 3 times over many months and nobody from Plex have even acknowledged it. It's pissing me off.

Curiosity - If you unplug, then replug, the HDMI cable that's feeding the TV from your Mac, does the image still have bars, or does it go full after plugging back in? (I presume your Mac actually goes into receiver, then an out from receiver to TV? Either way, try reseating cable from Mac side).

I don't know but what you're doing here is making it worse, not better. There's simply no need.

Correct. It goes into receiver. I'll try this when it happens again.

Also a note, it's not at the OS level since when quitting Plex it looks normal. I just don't understand what's happening when the screensaver is kicking in and why it happens at random.

While true, plex's lack of involvement in fixing/addressing issues is abysmal.

Seems like this is frequently the only way to get some sort of recognition.

It could be at the hardware level though.
Many applications, not just Plex, change screen resolutions during use (such as Plex does when it goes to screensaver).
    Most PC monitors switch accordingly.
If your receiver (or even TV) is having an HDMI handshake issue, Plex likely can't fix it.
I only mention this because I had similar issue with my Roku a few years back; it ended up being my receiver though - new firmware update to my receiver and haven't had any resolution switching issues since.
I'd guess TVs and Receivers don't expect a resolution change 'mid-stride' like a PC app may do, so might be less likely to adjust.
Just a theory - test when you get a chance.

Highly unlikely it's the hardware. This didn't happen on earlier builds of PMP and never happened with PHT, all using the same hardware.

Now that I think about this, why would Plex be changing resolution at all. It's fixed at whatever is set in the OS isn't it?

Question: what the heck is the setting under video that says something about Display mode switching. It isn't checked at the moment. No clue what it is though.

It is for changing the refresh rate only for content, i.e: 23.976, 24, 59.94 and 60 fps. It does not change the resolution at which the content will be displayed. It should not have any bearing on the Plex screensaver.

Gotcha. If you can find my first post on this issue there were logs attached. Or I can send the ones from yesterday. I just want to fix this. It's really annoying to need to quit Plex and relaunch when this happens.

I have PMP on an iMac and MacBook Pro. Unfortunately I do not use PMP on a Mac Mini but the others I mentioned do.

I've personally never seen this happen, although I plug directly into the TV, rather than through an AV receiver (in case that makes any difference).

Have you got the setting; Refresh Rate Switching set to on in settings, as I have experienced a similar issue with this setting set to on?

Try disabling it and see if it fixes your issue :)

The setting is on the Plex client. I'll grab a picture where it is when I get home. :)
