This one file won't play

_Dad__Dad_ Posts: 13Members, Plex Pass Plex Pass

Video plays fine in VLC, but I only get audio and a black screen in the web player

I'm running the hardware transcoding preview so server version is 1.6.0.3720

But this particular video is direct playing to the web player 3.4.1 on Chrome 59.0.3071.115 so I doubt it's related to the server version I'm running.

Here is the XML. Any ideas?

<Media videoResolution="720" id="146357" duration="6701813" bitrate="3403" width="1280" height="720" aspectRatio="1.78" audioChannels="2" audioCodec="aac" videoCodec="h264" container="mp4" videoFrameRate="NTSC" optimizedForStreaming="0" audioProfile="lc" has64bitOffsets="0" videoProfile="main">
<Part accessible="1" exists="1" id="147354" key="/library/parts/147354/1499033827/file.mp4" duration="6701813" file="D:\Media\Movies\End of the Spear (2005)\End of the Spear (2005) - Bluray - 720p.mp4" size="2850581805" audioProfile="lc" container="mp4" has64bitOffsets="0" hasThumbnail="1" optimizedForStreaming="0" videoProfile="main">
<Stream id="319581" streamType="1" default="1" codec="h264" index="0" bitrate="3202" bitDepth="8" chromaSubsampling="4:2:0" colorRange="tv" frameRate="29.970" hasScalingMatrix="0" height="720" level="31" profile="main" refFrames="4" streamIdentifier="1" width="1280"/>
<Stream id="319582" streamType="2" selected="1" default="1" codec="aac" index="1" channels="2" bitrate="201" audioChannelLayout="stereo" profile="lc" samplingRate="44100" streamIdentifier="2"/>
</Part>
</Media>

    For those following along at home:

    I tried:

    ffmpeg -i input.mp4 -movflags faststart -acodec copy -vcodec copy output.mp4

    which correctly moved the moov atom (chuckle) as evidenced by the new XML:

    <Media videoResolution="720" id="147558" duration="6701813" bitrate="3402" width="1280" height="720" aspectRatio="1.78" audioChannels="2" audioCodec="aac" videoCodec="h264" container="mp4" videoFrameRate="NTSC" optimizedForStreaming="1" audioProfile="lc" has64bitOffsets="0" videoProfile="main">
    <Part accessible="1" exists="1" id="148558" key="/library/parts/148558/1499815465/file.mp4" duration="6701813" file="D:\Media\Movies\End of the Spear (2005)\End of the Spear (2005) - Bluray - 720p.mp4" size="2850280060" audioProfile="lc" container="mp4" has64bitOffsets="0" hasThumbnail="1" optimizedForStreaming="1" videoProfile="main">
    <Stream id="322371" streamType="1" default="1" codec="h264" index="0" bitrate="3202" bitDepth="8" chromaSubsampling="4:2:0" colorRange="tv" frameRate="29.970" hasScalingMatrix="0" height="720" level="31" profile="main" refFrames="4" streamIdentifier="1" width="1280"/>
    <Stream id="322372" streamType="2" selected="1" default="1" codec="aac" index="1" channels="2" bitrate="200" audioChannelLayout="stereo" profile="lc" samplingRate="44100" streamIdentifier="2"/>
    </Part>
    </Media>

    Still getting a black screen when playing the video.

    Anyone have any other ideas?

    P.S. I got the ffmpeg thing from this post:

    https://rigor.com/blog/2016/01/optimizing-mp4-video-for-fast-streaming

    Edit: Tried changing the video quality from "Original" to "3mbps 720" and it started playing correctly. Changed back to Original and back to black screen. I suppose for now I will just have Plex create another version and I'll just go with that one.

    Edit: Had Plex create a 2mbps 720p version which plays fine. Strange. I'll call this solved even though it was very unsatisfying.

    Tried the MKVToolnix solution, did not seem to work. Low on time but I will post here when I find something that works.
