Local server suddenly unavailable.

MichloMichlo Posts: 58Members, Plex Pass Plex Pass

Greetings.

I was watching shows last night until about 02:00 PT without a problem.

This evening I start up the Plex app again and my server is unavailable. The Cloud version is available but useless since it still isn't scanning my library changes (another issue, posted elsewhere). I signed out and in again, restarted both the server and the Plex app, to no avail. I CAN see the server via a browser both on a computer and a tablet.

Nothing was changed between the two times, not even any Windows updates.

Please advise.

Cheers

Cheers.

    Woohoo, I've solved it. :)

A recent Windows 10 update (for some inexplicable reason) changed my network from private to public on both of my main machines. I found a lot of people complaining about this.

The easiest way to set it back to private is to run the Homegroup troubleshooter. Skip the network troubleshooting and you should then be asked to set your network to private.

    I hope this helps others.

    Cheers.

What device is your "PLEX app" running on? I've offered this suggestion many times as I found it useful. Try logging into the server, go to server settings / devices and delete the device that's having trouble (should see some entry (iPhone / Roku, etc)). You'll have to sign back into PLEX from the device you removed itself but that may work. Good Luck!

    PLEX Setup:
    Server Side: Dell R410 (16 Core | 16GB RAM) / Ubuntu Desktop 16.04.01 64bit / Synology RS812 & RS814 (9TB @ RAID 5)
    Client Side: Roku 4 (x4)

The device is the Amazon Fire TV. I did sign out and in again on there but I'll try your suggestion.

Alas, that didn't help. Thanks, though.

What's you "Secure connections" set to on your PMS under Networking settings?

It was "Preferred". I've set it to "Required".

Have you tried force stopping the Plex app on the Fire TV? Please also double check that your server and client both have static IP addresses. If the IP on either changes, things can get wacky. If you've tried all that, please restart the Plex app on the Fire TV, then get the logs from the device. A link to instructions can be found in my signature.

Thank you. I have tried that, yes and yes, they both have static IPs. My family can still access the server remotely so I'm sure it has to do with Fire TV's Plex app. :(

I don't see an advanced option in settings for the Plex App on the Fire TV. And under Privacy I only have the choice of Usage Statistics and Log To Device. I can't find an option for emailing the logs.

The version is 6.1.1.656 with Android version 5.1.

    Cheers.
