Roku Premiere+ not in Cast device list on Android Plex App if channel not selected

JocelynPJocelynP Members Posts: 7 ✭✭

Hi,

I have a brand new Roku Premiere+ updated to latest version with PLEX channel installed. I have an Android Nexus 6 phone with PLEX App and when I try to "Cast" the Roku is not listed in the available devices list. If I manually open the Plex channel on the roku, it appears on my phone.

I tested with Youtube and I don't have to pre-select the channel. Is this a bug? Do I have to configure something?

Thanks!

Really? I contacted Roku about that and they said it's in the Channel Configuration?

"In this case YouTube allows you to cast without access the channel, however Plex has a different configuration, maybe you can contact them and ask if you can change something on the settings in order to change it"

You mean, you called India, and "Joe Namath" offered up that tid-bit.

    Well.... you can ask.
    (that's a joke)

From Day One, casting is possible if the app is activated and not possible if it isn't.
That's about all the anecdotal evidence I can offer.

Haha in fact it was Ingrid :) and I had the feeling he was knowing absolutely nothing about how it work. Now at least I know it's not a bug. It's annoying to always have to select channel before but at least I can do it from Roku app.

    Thanks for the answer

About 100 years ago I too thought that was 'inconvenient' after having casted from YT with it closed, but very soon after that I discovered that YT is a complete waste of time on Roku, and also found the BEST way to view YT is through Watch Later and the PlexIt thingy on my browser.

    Ingrid, huh?
    Bergman?

So now the Plex channel is the only one you use?

    Aye Aye, Cap'n.

My YT needs are pretty low. In my travels I have bookmarks set to my YT 'regulars' - Colbert, Daily, etc. A quick PlexIt for the Watch Later list and as an added benefit, no YT ads, no nonsense, just what I'm after. Plex has to transcode everything for Roku, but my AFTV Direct Plays the same stuff and it doesn't matter anyway. My magnum gaming rig is my server so it has plenty of horses under the hood.

Added years to my life - I'm sure. I'd be dead already if I had to suffer through that YT app. That thing is an abomination.

I do use Sky News just about daily.
US news is all fake - I'm sure you've heard (I knew that actually). I figure if it really is news it'll be on Sky News and besides I like to keep up with the Queen and see all the stuff that happens when the Police don't just shoot the guy and call it a day.

    :)
