Tried every config - still getting black screen trying to play a H264 mp4 on Xbox One

Hi,

Fired up my plex app on my Xbox One, which streams from my synology NAS. Updated both xbox one app and Synology PMS however for a load of files im just getting a black screen when trying to watch a file.

In one example, the file plays fine when launching from the PMS into a browser, but cannot get it to play over the xbox one. Ive tried various enabling/disabling of Direct Play/stream, nothing works

Grateful for any ideas.

These are the file details from MediaInfo - no reason why this wouldnt play is there?

If you would, restart Plex on the NAS, then attempt to play a file on the Xbox and let it play for at least a minute, then stop it and wait one minute and then grab the Plex logs by clicking on the download logs button in Plex settings->server->help.

Attach the .zip file to your next post, thanks.

Also if you would, follow this guide and create a sample of the file you are playing: https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/201035968-Generating-Sample-Files-from-Media

If you would, upload the file to OneDrive or a similar file sharing website and then post the link to the file here please.

Please let me know at approx. what time you played the file and what the name of the file is, thanks.

    Regards,
    Andy M.

    HI Andy,

Thanks for your message. I think i found the problem, my NAS is a DS712+ which doesnt seem to support transcoding at all.

I could have sworn ive used it to transcode in the past but admittedly ive not use the PMS for a while.

Thanks for you help anyway, will have to upgrade my NAS

The DS712+ will transcode low bitrate 720p, but it will not transcode 1080p. However, your file should be able to Direct Play on the XBox, so that is not the issue.

    Please follow my instructions above.

    Regards,
    Andy M.
