Amazon Fire TV 5.1 Surround Sound not working?

Hey guys,

since a couple of days 5.1 surround sound is not working anymore (only stereo). When I watch something from amazon prime on the fire tv it is 5.1. Does anyone else have this problem?
Plex support: Do you know that issue?

    Ditto. I'm also having the same problem. I am beginning to think it was 3.14.1 upgrade that has broken it. I'm now going to investigate to see if there's a way to downgrade.

    Which audio format has the file on disk?
    DTS, AC3, EAC3, AAC ... ?

    I tried files with DTS, AC3 and EAC3.
    It also makes no difference if I'm forcing transcoding or not... also no 5.1 surround sound.

    Well, I've downgraded the Plex Media Server on OSX, all the way down to 1.7.3.3937 and had no luck with it.

    All the movies and TV shows that know were 5.1 are only playing 2.0 now.

    I think it's a problem of the plex player on the fire tv, not the plex server.

    which check boxes are set under
    Settings - Audio ?
    (in the settings menu of the Plex app on the Firestick)

    Yeah. I've uninstalled and installed again on the FireTV and no joy.

    By the way, I just remembered that my TV has a Plex App and I just tried it on that and I'm getting 5.1.

    So, it does seem like that it is the FireTV app that is having the issue.

    I tried everything.
    Both checked. None checked. Only one checked then only the other one checked. Boost is always set to none.
    Forcing transcoding video and/or audio.
    Nothing helped.

    Tried all like reyxd without success.

    It seems that the problem is definitely caused by one of the latest Amazon Plex App versions.

    I moved off the PlexApp recently for MrMc which appears to do a much better job at playing AAC / AC3 and 5.1 1080p etc etc, I prefer the Plex interface but hey who watches the interface for that long ?

    Shame they cant just use a bespoke player not the default android one they are calling from what I pick up...

    The latest firmware for the Firesticks introduced a bug with AC3 bitstreaming.
    (the 'AC3' checkbox under Settings - Audio of the Firestick Plex app)
    So that won't work unless there is a new firmware from Amazon.
    (there is unfortunately no further information available on when that will happen)

    Additionally, there is also an issue in the Plex app itself with transcoding surround sound to AAC 5.1.
    It would just transcode to AAC 2.0 (this is probably what most of you were affected by)
    An bug fix for this is planned to get released in a few days.

    @OttoKerner : Ahhh okay. Then I will wait for the Plex update, so that I can (at least) force plex to transcode to AAC 5.1 .
    I've already been wondering why transcoding to AAC 5.1 didn't work (I used that in the past as a workaround).

    @OttoKerner : Is the AAC 5.1 bug fixed within Version 1.8.0.4109 ? Couldn't find anything in the release notes.

    It's a client issue, no a server issue.
