PLEX for Kodi 14.2 (32bit) on Boxee Box?

Back in 2010 D-Link released the Boxee Box, an excellent XBMC driven media player,
in 2012 the team stopped all development, and were later bought out by Samsung, effectively abandoning the Boxee Box.

The Boxee Box is still an amazing bit of tech, capable of playing up to 1080p resolution, and has had two major independent developer updates, the first from Boxee+Hacks over @ http://boxeed.in , which made it possible to update the Boxee Box and led to new versions of XBMC / Kodi to run on it. The newest version of Kodi that some saint(s) have made available for the Boxee is a 14.2 hybrid available on their github, https://github.com/quasar1/boxeebox-xbmc last update: March 6th 2017.

It is a 32 bit version of Kodi, which is running on an Intel Atom CE4110 @ 1.20 Ghz

Anyway, should PLEX be able to retrofit their app for an earlier version of 32 bit Kodi, I imagine there are plenty of Plex Pass members, like myself, that would greatly appreciate it, since I see the forum search concerning a PLEX app for Boxee loads 100 pages of hits. Boxee Boxes would essentially be given a new lease of life as a device capable of streaming PLEX content.

So I ask PLEX, could such a thing be made a reality?

Honestly I'd also just love a standard PLEX app for the Boxee Box, but I just thought a Kodi retro fit might be easier since the Boxee Box development has been abandoned, but Kodi has not.

PlexKodiConnect should already work with later versions of Kodi like Kodi Helix:

Why are you using antiquated hardware in 2017 and asking Plex to accomodate the fact you're not willing to move on? Plex moves forwards, not backwards.

There are so many changes between V14 and V17 I doubt it's possible.

Nice, thank you for the link I'll look into this.

There are so many changes between V14 and V17 I doubt it's possible.

The 'antiquated' hardware is still superior in functionality and design to most base and mid-line hardware available now, and asking is all I'm doing, it isn't a matter of moving on, like I stated before an official plex app for Boxee Box has been asked after numerous times in these forums, I'm simply reiterating the requests and pointing out the simplest route to providing what has been requested.

It additionally isn't a matter of accounting for every change between kodi 14 and 17, it's only a matter of making the app 32 bit, and making sure it has dependencies that function on kodi 14.2. Besides PLEX has an app for v16 of Kodi as well. I'm not sure why you arbitrarily chose v17 as the contrast?

Another reason for posting this is that both the kodi plex app and the 14.2 kodi boxee app source code are available on github, so I've provided a convergence of data that could lead to other coders taking a crack at this.

So even if PLEX doesn't move on this, someone else may try solving the puzzle from another angle, I've my own angles I've been exploring, but why not make others aware while I'm at it? ;)

boxee box is like nvidia shield that didnt gone far its time because of abandonement of the product. that fucks people up and made people move on to new better device that have great support.

the only remedy you could do with your boxee is you could try what @croneter suggested. use kodi addon, plexkodiconnect. and hope it works on the kodi v14 you have.

an add-on like Plex for Kodi could never run on v14. Too much GUI stuff. Maybe PKC would work. Good luck! I had a Boxee Box once too and mine overheated. Amazed yours has lasted so long!

https://github.com/grantmcwilliams/PlexforBoxee - Check this out, I was using this app on my Boxee up until about a year ago.

The latest Kodi port for it was the best my system had ever run! I was actually quite sad decommissioning it as it was a very sturdy network media player. The boxee's controller was the best thing in the world and I've always been a massive fan of the system as a whole.
