PMS crash on MacOS Lion

thomasnymandthomasnymand Posts: 2Members, Plex Pass Plex Pass

Hi there,

I just updated my Plex Media Server on my old Mac Mini - the web-interface told me, that a new version was available, and I hit "Upgrade" like so many times before.

However this time, PMS did not start after the upgrade. When attempting to start the process manually (in bash) gives:

Mac-mini:MacOS thomas$ ./Plex\ Media\ Server
Illegal instruction: 4

(see the crash report below).

I suspect, that Plex no longer runs on Lion... (Had hoped that the installer would have told me that I was attempting upgrade to an unsupported version...)

If that is indeed the case, I would like to know where to download an older version - preferably the most recent running on 10.7?

/Thomas

Could you locate the Plex Media Server logs - would like to see how it managed to tell you there was an update

The logs are in this directory

Using the Finder's Go menu, select Go To Folder...
then enter the following in the dialog box that pops up:
    ~/Library/Logs/Plex Media Server/

Please attach the Plex Media Server.log and other logs with names starting with Plex Media Server

The problem that arose in August 2017 where an old Mac running the last supported version of Plex Media Server got updated with an incompatible version was fixed in August 2017

The problem you have now is different. Your old 0.9.16.6.1993-5089475 version of Plex Media Server is still running on your old Mac.

Plex for iOS no longer supports old versions of Plex Media Server. This happened as from version 4.28 of Plex for iOS - see Release Notice text (copy here http://forums.plex.tv/discussion/comment/1655586/#Comment_1655586).

Notice of this happening was given in advance on march 20 - see http://forums.plex.tv/discussion/comment/1637821/#Comment_1637821 and also in the release note of the preceding version 4.27 released March 27 - see copy of text here http://forums.plex.tv/discussion/comment/1642515/#Comment_1642515

Old obsolete versions of Plex Media Server cannot remain supported by all the plex apps forever - that would impact progress and the ability to provide new functionality
