*Not Answered* Sync error during transfer - Win10 App

soulvoid86soulvoid86 Members, Plex Pass Posts: 68 Plex Pass

Using the Windows 10 app, I'm receiving the attached sync error during the transfer portion of syncing any media item. Fresh install from the App Store.

I've tested this on 3 different PC's, 2 with Win10 Pro build 16299.64 and 1 with Win10 Home build 16299.64. Sync works fine on our 4 mobile devices, 2 android and 2 iOS.

The files are also pre-optimized to 4mbps/720p and play fine on any Plex app without an issue.

I've attached logs and DB from the server, along with 1 of the PC's logs. This server is remote as well at the moment. Can test locally if needed.

Edit This actually did not work. Only worked temporarily. See my update below

As it turns out, having multiple devices with the same name listed under authorized devices is what causes this error. I removed all the outdated and duplicate devices and I'm now able to sync again on the Windows 10 app.

Listing the error in text for anyone that may be searching for the same thing. I was only able to find one thread about this after a few days, and found the exact error by luck in someone logs, then followed their workflow.

    Error: Expected X-Plex-Sync-Version: 2

This worked thanks, but unfortunately I had to delete my existing device as well to fix it. This meant all synced items were lost!

This worked temporarily - after deleting my Windows 10 devices and reauthorising my Surface Pro again, I was successfully able to sync items which previously I got the error for. However, when I returned to it to try and add some more, I get the error message again. I can confirm that my Surface Pro is only mentioned once in the list of devices.

I had the issue pop back up as well, but got it working, somewhat.

I'm not sure what you're doing, but I was trying to sync an entire TV series at one time. It seems it gets the error when the syncs stall in the middle of transferring. The server keeps some sort of profile data about the device associated to that name, and is seeing the data as synced, but it's not. It doesn't help that the app crashes if it's minimized or sits idle for too long, and that's been a known issue for some time...

Take a look at my screenshot to see what I mean, not sure if I explained that well enough

What I started doing is just syncing one, or a handful, of episodes at a time, and making sure they are completely synced before doing anything else.

That's not a big deal for my situation, as the PC is acting as a HTPC and isn't used for anything else at the moment. But you shouldn't have to take these steps, and this might not be a viable solution for everyone. Works for me until it's fixed correctly though. Seems more like a server side issue to me, but I'm not a dev, just a system admin

Going by current support standards, I wouldn't bet on it!

Seems that way.. I actually ended up not being able to play half the files that synced... See my other post. About to find a new service, that's for sure! And by find a new service, I mean switch to their competition, Emby.. I've been loyal to Plex for about 3-4 years. That's about to change real quick..

Let's see what we get for answers on this. Since the Windows app forums seem to be dead.

Honestly, sync is just flat broken on the Windows 10 app. My suggestion is just bare with it until they finally reveal what this secret is they have been working on with Windows 10 app or until they admit its all a farse and have tried to suck the last few pennies out of us and this app isn't going to ever be repaired.

I have not heard of this secret. Do you know of a post where it might have been discussed?

Right - not sure what is going on with you guys but my Sync is working, not always as smooth as I wish but I have stuff transfer over. Could you reproduce the error and get both logs from Server and Client and post them? Maybe we can find out whats wrong that way? (I saw you had server logs posted in an earlier post, but for this I'd imagine we need both, from the same time please - also an indication what time it fails would be great).

just run into this exact problem too, I'm trying the remove and regiester trick which appears to working for now.

Bump for issue affecting me too. Uninstall reinstall, deleting old device from plex worked for two transfers and then failed.

  • bigpoppa_millerbigpoppa_miller Members, Plex Pass Posts: 18 Plex Pass

Same here, sync is broken and will not work. Tried everything from this thread, even tried to manually copy the files over to see if Plex would pick them up, no luck. Worked for about the 1x television series (8 episodes) and 4 movies, but now won't sync anything anymore no matter what I do.

  • YogimaxYogimax Members, Plex Pass Posts: 306 Plex Pass

Again, like others, deleting all synced content, then uninstalling and reinstalling the app seems to have fixed the issue!
Thanks to all the Plex support staff who assisted in this! (Hello..., empty echoes..., Nothing heard - OUT!`)

I can always do an initial sync as well, but when I go back to add something, it bombs.

  • delwinbestdelwinbest Members, Plex Pass Posts: 4 Plex Pass

Clean install works for a short while but any update to the sync content bombs. Has anyone found a permanent fix??

  • chaosmakerchaosmaker Members, Plex Pass Posts: 537 Plex Pass

I don't have a permanent fix for it, but I have a workaround that might help you guys. So once you have removed the device and then logged back in on your Win10 device, sync a single item. From then on to select shows to sync on your device use Plex Web, you can ask it to sync shows to your device under sync. Then all you need to do is open your win 10 app and ask it to sync. So far that works for me and on plex web you don't get the error.

  • Lil' SkippyLil' Skippy Members, Plex Pass Posts: 4 Plex Pass

Keep getting the same error message, and used the above method to resolve the issue. Temporarily. I deleted my old computer which is offline, and had some success until I exited. When I came back in the old computer was somehow added back in :o Royal PITA
