Using hostname rather than IP address when adding Plex server connections by hand

Settings/Advanced/Server Connections
is restricted to use IP address - could this be changed to allow a hostname to be specified instead?

Yeah, any input? There is this unresolved thread from 2014: https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/97245/ios-wont-add-server-via-hostname

I have a plex server I wish to access from both within and outside of my local area network. My public DNS record points to my gateway (where the plex server is exposed), but internally, my local DNS resolves to the actual non-publically-routable IP of the plex server.

Thus, I wish to enter the hostname. This way, it will resolve locally when I'm home, and will resolve to the publicly NAT'd address when remote.

If this is impossible (why would it be?) then how do I access it universally via that myplex thing? I am a PlexPass subscriber. I love that the free web interface works where the paid iOS application fails.

I would like this as well. I run Plex on a Raspberry Pi docker swarm, so the IP changes if Plex is load balanced to another node. I also run Traefik reverse proxy on the swarm, so I'd prefer to be able to use plex.mydomain.com instead of IP addresses.

    Thanks!
