Where is collection info coming from

ry14ry14 Members Posts: 52 ✭✭

I want to use the collection feature of tags, but all of my movies have a 'collection' that is just the individual movie. Kinda useless, now i have a small enough collection to manually remove these..but after i do they come back, within a day. Now i do not have turned on 'use collection info from the movie DB' checked in settings so where else would this information continually be populated from?

Plex likes to hide that information because they know everyone wants a single movie in a 'Collection'.
What you have to do - as an unreasonable person - is to click every 'Gear' in every Agent you can find - then turn off The Collection 'Feature' that Plex knows everyone wants... except you... and me... and those other thousands of unreasonable persons that just can't conform to Plex Standards.

Wait until you try to turn off 'Popular Tracks'. There's an adventure you'll not soon forget.

This checkbox is not ticked in a default install.
But there are 2 agents for movies, and both can fetch that info from TMDB.
Your screen shot only shows the options of the TMDB agent.
It is in the Plex Movie agent as well.
    Untick it there too.

    Then erase the collections.

If you have mp4 files, inspect their metadata. If they have an 'Album' tag, Plex will also interpret its value as a Collection name to add them into.

So checked the 2nd agent 'plex move' and that box is not checked. I also checked the meta data of the file (details tab of the file) and nothing listed there for album or anything else that would indicate. took a specific movie and deleted the collection tab again for test.

You won't see the meta tag within Plex. You need to use a specialised software.
    I recommend mp3tag

This looks like something i can try later this evening.

https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee851674.aspx built right into windows to remove metadata.

Don't get your hopes up. This doesn't show all metadata.

mp3tag = no dice still. I scanned and blanked out everything but still movies have there own collection info that keeps coming back even if i delete.

  • ry14ry14 Members Posts: 52 ✭✭

so yea if i delete 'album' / delete collection then rescan library we are clear. but if i refresh metadata it comes back. That said with mp3tag i'm not seeing where this info is coming from. album is blank and the movie matches others that have collection blank. I'm lost.

    Could you
    1) use the 'Remove tag' feature of mp3tag to completely remove all meta tags from the file
    2) stop plex server, clean out the agent caches
    3) change the order of the agents under Settings - Server - Agents - Movies - Plex Movie + TheMoviedatabase and then change it back. (It just need to be moved once.)
    4) restart Plex Server and refresh the movie

So i tried this but without the step "clear out agents cache" and it didn't work. I'm just not positive which cache i clear or does it matter if i do all of them?.

    %LOCALAPPDATA%\Plex Media Server\Plug-in Support\Caches

  • OttoKernerOttoKerner Members, Plex Pass, Plex Ninja Posts: 30,880 Plex Ninja

You can clear all of them.

Still no dice on this, it's maddening. Especially because it's fine on the web interface but messing with my appletv as any movie with a "collection" that states say "DVD_1" shows up twic.

A server bugfix related to that, just went beta.

Disable the inline display of collections.

May I see a screenshot, how this appears in your library?

I'd also be interested in the Plex XML info of an affected movie.
