Calling you out Plex not so cool situation

calranthcalranth Validating, Plex Pass Posts: 1 Plex Pass

From what I understand this is Plevr the pc oculus client which the author has pretty much abandoned for sale on steam

So what happened did you offer him money to abandon the PC version (which is pretty much unsupported as of now) and yes you had to pay for it and instead move over to Daydream ?

Time to get rid of plex because I do not enjoy the taste in my mouth.

how do you come to that understanding/interpretation?
not saying you cannot feel this way... just trying to understand where you're actually coming from? Is it the Daydream thing or that you perceive the Plevr developer is not... what??

You seem to be insinuating that Plex forced Plevr to shut down and then stole his idea. There is no evidence that either of these things happened, though. Why would they even do that?

Plevr is not the first VR theater app anyone has made. Other than both being in VR and both playing Plex libraries, they're actually not all that similar from what I can tell.

I think you're upset over something that didn't actually happen.

Add to that, Plevr was a PC app, and so is a completely different VR implementation than Daydream VR on mobile devices. It wouldn't make sense to purchase that software for use in development on a mobile app.

If you want a replacement for PC, try BigScreen. http://store.steampowered.com/app/457550/Bigscreen_Beta/

How is that uncool? Plex noticed the work of a third-party developer, and they hired him on as a first-party developer to improve their own offerings. That seems exceedingly cool to me.

We hired him! We even said so in our blog post when the Plex VR app was released. It's not a secret.

PlexVR was first introduced for the DayDream device, but we plan to support other VR devices in the future.

It's not uncool at all. The fact that Plex noticed this guy and his work shows good intention to make the platform even better. Without knowing all the facts I'd think it makes great business sense as well since the added exposure of this VR (1 so far) linked right on the Plex web sight give it more focus and should help Plex Pass sales. Those additional sales should cover his salary making it a no brainer.

With a full time salary to just work on this type of thing vs as a hobby it should also expedite the release of better quality releases and make new versions for other platforms a quicker reality!

Not to mention, this should make it easier in many ways for him as now he may have access to information he might not have had as a 3rd party dev as well as maybe getting additional resources and/or help from other teams to add features that would make it easier for the client to work.

Speaking purely from a business standpoint it also stops a 3rd party developer from supporting other platforms as well which is smart if you want to be the only game in town for this new "technology".
