Direct play on some 4k HEVC files and transcodes some. Exact same codec

Hi!

I get my LG and Samsung 4K TV to direct play some of my mkv files with 4K HEVC. For some reason 50% of the files doesn't direct play and Plex tries to transcode them.

On the ones not working it has DTS-HD audio so I changed it to AC3, so now my TVs direct play the audio but the video still tries to get transcoded.

Any ideas why?

You need to give more info on the files that aren't direct playing as well as the plex app version and plex server version

No subtitles enabled I'm assuming? If so disable them and try again, if not try this.

Try playing the second file through Plex DLNA. First you'll have to delete the preset profile used for Samsung bc it is not updated for HEVC. By deleting the profile plex will default to a universal profile which is compatible

You will most likely find profiles located under

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Plex\Plex Media Server\Resources\Profiles

Then find the file name Samsung SmartTV.xml and delete it. It will ask for administration clearance just accept it.

Now try to play the file. If it plays without transcoding then it's the Plex app that is limited( They have alot of work to do for 4k compatability)
