Lots of bug-fixes for scanners pushed, you will get them via auto-updates. Details here: http://pastie.org/1143338

It works great! Now accepts also the funny german umlauts in the metadata. Thanks alot!

Awesome piece of software Elan... sorry for all the negative energy around!

So - the file counter in PMS says 125 movies, whereas Finder tells me that I have 126. After much rooting around, I found the culprit is Lord of the Rings 3 (Return of the King).

Here are the relevant extracts from PMS Scanner.log. It appears to be getting matched to the Fellowship of the Rings

I checked IMDB and noted that strictly speaking it is "THE Lord of the Rings - THE Return of the King", but after renaming/ rescanning, still no joy.

Thanks so much for any help - let me know if you need any more information!

Hi

My case is a bit different. I have all my TvShows this way:
Doctor Who/Season 1/S01E01/Doctor_Who_S01E01.avi

Inside S01E01 directory I have the video file and subtitles.
This structure worked fine with plex 0.8.

Now it seems it works only depending on the TV show.
For example, with Doctor Who it works fine. But, with Caprica or Dexter there is no way to do it.
It only worked once I move the video files inside Season 1. For example:
Caprica/Season 1/Caprica_S01E01.avi

Regards

Numbers in filenames appear to stop movies being scanned (if they appears early in name, or are not delimited from chars).
I believe that they are skipped because the scanner believes it's a TV show (some references in log files).

OK, did a bit more tracking of this one, if only to understand python a bit more.

Anyway, the filename is avs720-p.mkv, and it's failing because it thinks it's a TV episode. It's failing at "Plex Movie Scanner.py" line 81.
This is checking against a regex in the SeriesScanner. The exact regex it fails on is (from "Plex Series Scanner.py" Line 10:

'(.*?)[sS](?P<season>[0-9]+)[\._\- ]*(?P<ep>[0-9]+)', # S03-03

So avs720-p.mkv matches because "s720" appears and the scanner thinks it a TV show. Now, it's possible to fix this by altering the [\._\-]* to [\._\-]+ which would require a '.', '_' or '-' to appear and would only match series of tyep s01-03, s199.300, S23_21, etc..

How many TV series have number like sXXXXX? Is "S101" series 1 ep 10 or Series 10 ep 1? Or, for scanning dirs designated as Movies, we don't use this regex (not 100% sure why we are looking for Tv in a movie dirs, belts and braces?)

How to handle different shows that have similar names like:
Wallander
Wallander (UK)
(Right now only Wallander is showing up)

Following is just a note right now as I know there is only english language support - How to handle episodes in different languages for the same show, including different name per language, like:
Komissar Wallander / Season 1 /
Wallander (UK) / Season 2 /
What if the name is the same for different languages, but the season language is different (until now I could create different structures per language and it worked for Plex8), for example:
Show (DE) / Season 1 /
Show / Season 2 /

Until now I had 3 different folders
Wallander
Komissar Wallander
Wallander (UK)
and all was ok with Plex8, but now only Wallander shows up!

---

How to handle main and extras DVD?
Until now I could name it like
Rush - R30 (2005)
Rush - R30 Disc 2 (2005)
And it worked under Plex8, now the second disc is gone, how to do now? Where is it?

I'm having a problem with one movie where I have both the theatrical and director's cuts, and the Scanner appears to be deleting the reference to the director's cut, or combining it with the theatrical movie.

I am still seeing failures on the following:

No Metadata & Incorrect picture
Jamie Eat To Save Your Life

Metadata & Incorrect Picture

City Lights (1987) - Is showing the 1986 version picture

No Metadata and No Poster
Jamie's Great Italian Escape
Pukka Tukka

Correct Metadata Incorrect Poster
Clash Of The Santas

I have tried everything and when I click Fix Incorrect Match it doesn't find anything even though these are clearly available on the true TVDB website.

Here's my contribution to the list of problems:

1) http://forums.plexapp.com/index.php?/topic/16414-music-tagging-gone-wrong/
2) http://forums.plexapp.com/index.php?/topic/16418-music-tagging-gone-wrong-pt2/
3) http://forums.plexapp.com/index.php?/topic/16424-music-tagging-gone-wrong-pt3/

Another problem that I have is: how do I deal with DVD extras. E.g. for David Attenboroughs "Life in the undergrowth" I have all the episodes and one extra (an interview). How shall I name this to show up? I mean if there are 5 episodes and an interview extra it would be plain wrong to name the interview as 6th episode. Any ideas how to proceed?
EDIT: This actually seems to be the solution (to name it S01E06): http://thetvdb.com/?tab=episode&seriesid=79185&seasonid=16174&id=304880&lid=7

But the issue remains for movies which come with extras.

Good luck squashing bugs.

The problem I'm having is with Star Trek New Voyages - Phase II. The initial scan thought it was TNG, but it certainly is not. While I figure there should be some issue as I have it set up for stacking, but Plex doesn't stack TV shows. It no longer thinks it's TNG, but there is none of the fancy metadata.

Full path is /Volumes/Media Drive 02/TV/Star Trek New Voyages - Phase II/

My TV shows are working great... but my home movies I can't get to scan. I set it up like below.

Maybe this will work?
http://wiki.plexapp.com/index.php/Plex_Nine#Adding_Home_Movies

Adding using the TV Show Scanner: Using this method will take all of your home movies and present them in three levels like TV Shows (TV Shows -> Season -> Episodes). To do this, follow the steps for adding a TV show section and change the Primary Info Provider to "Home Movies Series." Currently the interface for this method is incomplete and will resemble what is used for TV shows. The benefit of using this method is that you can organize your home movies better (Year -> Event -> Home movies). In order for this to work correctly, your home movie files must be named like date based TV episodes: /2009/New Years Eve/Happy New Year - 2009-12-31.mov.

Thank you for the suggestion. I've actually tried that too and it does find the videos with the dashes in the names. However then I get a different problem which results in about half of my shows not being scanned.

If you have more than one video on the same date it will only find the first one. For example if you have:

2009-07-04 01 BBQ at the park.mov
2009-07-04 02 BBQ at the park.mov
2009-07-04 03 BBQ at the park.mov

It will only show the first video as episode "07-04" and the other two will be skipped.

So it depends on which half of my movies I want to show up. :)

It's not a huge issue for me... I can always add them the old way through the video plugins, but I'm trying to make sure the correct people are aware of the situation. It would be cool to have them off the home menu so that my family could find them easier.

I think actually it won't be skipped, but rather be "stacked" into one movie. If you simply rename so it doesn't look like stackable file that should work for now (e.g. 2009-07-04 BBQ at the park - Intro.mov

Thanks for that. So I went and tried it. It didn't quite work as expected.

I have two files from Jan 9.

2010-01-09 001.mp4
2010-01-09 002.mp4

In plex it shows "Episode 01-09" in the "Season 2010" which seems pretty cool. However if I play "Episode 01-09" what I would expect to happen based on your explanation is that both files would play back to back with the 001 file playing first. What actually happens is the 002 file plays and the 001 file does not play and is not in the library.

I also tried this...

I took the three files that were named

2010-02-27 001.mp4
2010-02-27 002.mp4
2010-02-27 003.mp4

and renamed them

2010-02-27 Ashley and her birthday cake.mp4
2010-02-27 Ashley opening presents.mp4
2010-02-27 Ashley playing musical chairs.mp4

I re-scanned the library... and now I do see an episode "Episode 02-27" and it's the file "2010-02-27 Ashley playing musical chairs.mp4". It's a little strange because all the episodes are listed numerically correct but this episode is the last episode in the season.

thanks for looking at this issue.

Oh, crap, I'm sorry, I think I screwed up the explanation. If you do date-based, the dates for all the files need to be different, otherwise they are merged (or should be) via stacking.

If you do episode based, you should be able to do: S01E01, S010E02, etc., same as regular TV shows. I'm currently working on a fix for the scanner so that you'll be able to name them S2010E01, etc. (with the year as season).

However, in your case you have multiple "episodes" for a single date, so I'll have to think about this a bit more, it doesn't fit neatly in with Show > Season > Episode, unless I'm missing something.

Found an issue with the movie "Extraordinary Measures".
It doesn't show up in the Media Manager, no traces of it in the log.

Directory structure is as follows:

/Volumes/Movies/2010/Extraordinary Measures/Extraordinary Measures.avi

Renaming the folder to "_Extraordinary Measures" or "Extr_aordinary Measures"
and, voila, it shows up. Renaming it to "Extra_ordinary Measures", it will not.

Seems like it fails when the directory begins with the word "Extra"...

Well what I ended up doing and it's working fine is naming them like this.

S2010E001 20100704.avi
S2010E002 20100704.avi
S2010E003 20100704.avi

I wanted to keep the date in the filename because I've had issues in the past when moving files around between different file systems, new computers, ... where I've somehow managed to lose the created date metadata and I want to know the date the video was created. So now I make it a rule to always keep the date in the filename itself.

The only issue with doing this is that every time I import a new video from my camera I have to go in and modify the filename which I didn't have to do in the past.

I know everyone uses Plex differently and everyone has their priorities. For me home movies are important. My kids love watching the videos of themselves. Looking forward to what you come up with in the future. thanks.

That's interesting... I hadn't noticed, but after seeing this post I had a look, and sure enough, the same episode is missing from my library. The full path is:

/Volumes/1tb_Seagate/TV/Chuck/Chuck - 03x06 - Chuck vs. the Nacho Sampler.avi

Found a work around. Apparently "sample" is a keyword causing that to episode to fail. I removed the name and just called it Chuck - S03E06.avi then in TV shows in the media manager I hit shift and the referesh button in the lower right and it scanned in. Then later I went back and renamed the episode.

I'm having the same problem (why, Chuck, why?!). I tried your suggested fix of deleting the episode title from the filename and refreshing, and it worked perfectly.

However, when I renamed the file back to its original format, Plex lost it again after the automatic library update.

Are there any other possible workarounds for the SAMPLEr issue?
