It is with great regret I have to announce this news, which we in the team were informed of yesterday by his wife. After a time of illness David Turner ( @NedtheNerd ) passed away on the 13th of September.
I know that his loss will be felt even by many who never knew him personally, as he was an active force in both the RasPlex and OpenPHT projects and responsible for much of their online support and webpage maintenance. We will try to fill in as best we can, but he can not easily be replaced.
NB: I’m posting this in both the RasPlex and OpenPHT subforums, as it concerns both equally.
Very sad news indeed. I know I’ve not always agreed with his opinions, but he was certainly a great source of knowledge in these forums and will be missed. My condolences to his family in their time of need.
■■■■. I was worried something like this had happened to him. Back in August I noticed he hadn’t been on the Rasplex/OpenPHT forums much in a while. David’s presence here was strong, so much so, a random fellow like myself noticed when he was absent a few weeks.
I reached out to him and he said he’d had some heath problems recently but he was starting to feel better. He told me he’d be back once he fully recovered. I’m saddened to learn that never happened.
David was very generous with his time here supporting the community. Along with @dlanor, he was a big help when I started using the Rasplex/OpenPHT software. I don’t know the full depth of his contributions, but his answers and documentation are still being used on a daily basis and referenced in answers to new questions. He will be missed here.
If David helped you in some way, I think donating your time to helping others here in the forums is a great way to honor his contributions.
My condolences to his family and friends who feel his loss more than we’ll ever know.
I’m totally new to this part of the forums, but by reading the comments above and googling on his name I can only conclude his death is a great loss…
Wishing all the best to his (rasp)family and friends…
I didn’t know him, but he really stood out to me. He personally helped me with issues on here, and his numerous posts helped me immensely as well. But it was the way he helped that made him stand out. You could really tell he was a very nice person. And reading the posts above mine, that is most likely a huge understatement. I am very saddened by this news. I hope his friends & family are doing okay.
RIP David
He is missed already by people like me who didn’t even know him, that says something !
NedtheNerd = Ledgend
I hope they have plex in heaven for him, he will love that and by the time i get there it will be running as smooth as butter if “Ned” helps out with it like he did here on earth =D>
Thoughts go out for all Davids “real” freinds and family.
