Newly added movies not downloading posters. did not make any changes to system

BsadlerBsadler Posts: 20Members, Plex Pass Plex Pass

I am stuck, I have been using plex for years I made no changes to my PC or plex, but the last batch of movies I added to my library are not getting movie posters. I have:
-Done the plex dance,
-Forced refresh of all meta data,
-scanned library
-Checked agent order,
-checked file names
-Checked for correct movie match
-Deleted chache
As an example I added "turner & Hooch" When I click on the movie icon in my library it shows the correct title and date, extra features, director, cast list etc... But no movie poster.

The movie DB is the on top of my agent list. I do not have a firewall issue. Again it was working fine one day and the next day it was not. No updates, new software, hardware etc.

Any suggestions would be welcomed

    Log Files:

Drag zip file to message window and drop it.

    Note:
    If you added:
    turner & Hooch.xxx
    instead of:
    Turner & Hooch (1989).xxx
That probably explains both the problem and the solution.

Renaming/restructuring is best performed OUTSIDE the library and you'll need to write a new bundle for the show so The Plex Dance® was invented:

... and just in case - the 'Official' Plex Dance® - don't be fooled by cheap imitations:

    The Plex Dance®:

    1) remove show/movie from library
    2) update library
    3) empty trash
    4) clean bundles
https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/200392106-Library-Actions <--- update library, empty trash, clean bundles
    5) bring names and structures into compliance/ or the ultimate bundle reboot operation
    6) replace corrected show/movie into library
    7) update library

All Steps. In Order. No Shortcuts.

I should have been more clear, When I said I checked the files names I meant they were correctly named including the year as described in the "naming movie files link". I use file bot and verify titles are correct including year.
Since my last post I scrubbed my entire library did a complete new install. 9 out of 10 movies work correctly. The other 10% don't.
Kung Fu Panda (2008). PLex matches it correctly and down loads all meta data correctly. The poster is not displayed. I have to click on the movie, click edit, click poster, choose an image (that was correctly downloaded) click save.
I just don't want to have to do that 400 times.
Also I just noticed my tv shows are correctly displayed in the server but when i use the plex media player no posters are displayed.

    Your movies look good.

    TV Shows? Not so much...:

    \TOWER\Plex\Series\Family Guy\Blue Harvest (part 01).mkv <---invalid non-compliant
    \TOWER\Plex\Series\Family Guy\Family Guy - S01e01.mkv <--- invalid - non-compliant
    \TOWER\Plex\Series\Dr. Who (2005)\Doctor Who (2005)- s01e01.mkv <---- invalid - non-compliant
    \TOWER\Plex\Series\The Big Bang Theory\Season 10\The Big Bang Theory - 10x23 - The Gyroscopic Collapse.mkv <--ditto
    \TOWER\Plex\Series\The Big Bang Theory\Season 08\S00E25.mkv <--- mix and match - incomplete, non-compliant
\TOWER\Plex\Series\The Big Bang Theory\Season 06\metadata\The Big Bang Theory S06E16 - The Tangible Affection Proof.xml <--- absolute mystery what's going on here

There's basically ONE way TV Shows Work:

    \TOWER\Plex\Series\
    .......The Big Bang Theory\
    ............Season 06\
................The Big Bang Theory - S06E16 - The Tangible Affection Proof.xxx

No other folders allowed, the only other files allowed are sub files, image files and nfo files (if you use them properly) and they're ONLY allowed in Season Folders. From what I've seen in your TV Show Library - you need a complete ReDo. It's a mess.

You probably have other issues - @OttoKerner / @astrofisher will be able to ferret those out. While we wait for them you have a LOT of work to do in your TV Shows.

I Should not have mentioned the tv shows. That was a side note. I was just pointing out that I have never had an issue with them until now.

    My concern is the movies!
You said they look good and I agree the problem is they look good but still are not working. Some match but don't show posters even though the posters are downloaded. You have to go into each movie and select the poster.
As I dig deeper I am finding movies that are not matching and are not downloading meta data. Again they are named correctly including year. When I go into the individual movie and select more, then match it finds the correct movie 100% I select it and save then it pulls and displays meta data.

Yea, you have something going on - that's why I called for reinforcements.

I don't know if this matters, but your TV Shows are so messed up that could be causing a system wide detonation... that's a guess.

If I was there... I'd delete my TV Show Library. Whack it. Demolish the building. See if the Movies start behaving better. lol
Create a new TV Show Library and ONLY drop properly structured shows into it. A few at a time.

The movies were done first and had the issues before I even added the tv show library. Also I understand how tv shows are supposed to work but I have been using Plex for years and have never had any issues with the structure for tv shows using title 01x01, 01x02 etc. Again it worked fine so I never bothered fixing it.

Also I have not said it yet but thanks for looking into my problem

It looks like something is interfering with Plex's operation on your system.
Which type of anti virus are you using?
Whichever it is, tell it to stay out of the folder C:\Users\Oso\AppData\Local\Plex Media Server

Have you ever started Plex server 'As Administrator'?
If you did, there is a major SNAFU in the aforementioned folder with access permissions.
    to fix that: http://lallouslab.net/2013/08/26/resetting-ntfs-files-permission-in-windows-graphical-utility/

Try this as well, right before performing the Plex Dance with a select movie:

Not using anti virus, disabled windows defender.
No I dont think I have started plex as admin,
Tried deleting cache before the dance. I am trying it again with a single movie to see if that helps.
do you still think I should reset permissions if i have not started plex as admin. Also would that only effect a small percentage of my movies?

    No, I think not.

Theoretically, it'd affect all media on your plex server. But of course you'd see only minor difference if only a few of the thousands of files and folders in your metadata folder have defective permissions.

So clearing the cache and doing the dance works on a single movie. If I try it with the entire library I get the same problem. Movies match and download metadata. about 5% just don't show a poster by default they have to be manually selected. Doing the dance with a single file works and the poster is automatically selected. But I have problems with hundreds of movies it is faster to manually select a poster on 100 movies then to do the dance on 100 movies.

Does that mean, you get a selection of posters to choose from if you 'edit' the movie?

I'd like to see the Plex XML info of an affected movie please
    and a screenshot of both
Settings - Server - Agents - Movies - Plex Movie
    and

Some have all meta data and if I "edit" the movie I get a selection of poster to choose from. They just are not chosen by default like normal.
Other movies are named correctly including year, but are not matched and have no meta data. When I go into the individual movie and select more, then match it finds the correct movie 100% I select it and save then it pulls and displays meta data.
working on screen shots and xml

XML is matched with meta data but no image selected by default. XML 2 is named correctly not matched

Lol, no but it would not let me load both in one post. When I tried to load just the image it said i needed 10 more characters. "second screen shot" is what my brain defaulted to.

Yes, that looks all quite ordinary.

Is it possible that you are being too impatient?
After adding a new item, it may still take several minutes before all metadata have arrived (particularly if there are also other things going on, like playbacks, Syncs etc).

Minutes I can deal with. It's been a week. Usually after I add title to my library I do a scan before bed. Let it work over night and then check on them in The evening after work. The titles that are having issues were added over a week ago.

  • BsadlerBsadler Posts: 20Members, Plex Pass Plex Pass

This is why i made a post. I have been using plex for I think 6 years, I have never had an issue I could not resolve myself or by checking forums. Now... I am failing at plex
