Startup Crashes
Plex Media Center crashes on startup. I installed the Server and it runs fine. I then installed the Media Center and when I open it up, it immediently crashes and says that it has stopped working. I am running Vista. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling with no success. I also tried reinstalling c++ from microsoft as one post suggested. I have had no luck getting it up and running. Any ideas?Plex.exe.3064.zip

I have the same problem. I get the plex startup screen and then a window indicating "Plex Media Center has stopped working." It worked fine for a month. I removed/reinstalled the client without success. I also uninstalled several recently installed programs that I thought might be creating a conflict with it...no luck. The PMS is working fine. The Plex client on my other computer on the same local network works fine.

The log stops at the same spot every time

Same issue here. First time install. Windows 7 Pro 64-Bit.
  • critter350critter350 Posts: 8Members
    Same here.
Server running fine on my HTPC but can't get it to run client, W7 64 bit.
I posted this dump on the server forum by mistake before, sorry about the double up.
  • I have a problem whit this too. The PMC will not open at all.. I had Plex on my old and bad computer, and it worked great! I bought a new one (Asus K53SV - Win 7 x64) and now it won't work. It seems to me it has something to do with the 64 bits system?! It had been wery nice if someone could explain how (if there is a general way) to fix this!

Same issue here, don't even get an error msg, it just won't open at all. Win7 Pro 64bit up to date. Ironically my friend's PC which is almost identical can use it just fine...

    First, thanks for posting dumps.

    gilbertcazier@hotmail.com:

The crash is in libplibc-1.dll, for which unfortunately I don't have symbols. The only workaround I can suggest is to grab binaries from ftp://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/libmicrohttpd/ and replace the ones under system\webserver. You may need to rename libmicrohttpd-10.dll to libmicrohttpd-5.dll in order to get PMC to load it.

    critter350:

As posted on the other thread, this is gethostbyname("") returning null. I've filed an internal bug. Any idea why that would be happening?

    Thanks Mfeingol
This is a bit beyond me, all I can tell you is the splash screen appears then the Plex Media Centre has stopped working dialogue appears.
Maybe a conflict with something else installed - WM7, media browswer, MCM, shark codecs, etc?
    cheers

Today I tried uninstalling plex, shark codecs, silverlight, flash, MCM (thought they may have conflicts) - then reinstalling silverlight, flash then plex. Still same issue. Dunno if that info helps.
    cheers

I also have this problem, Client and Server are the only things installed on this machine. It is connected to my amp via HDMI, when I start plea I hear the odd bit of crackling and as soon as I play a video the whole machine crashes, pretty frustrating really.

    Any ideas?

System is a Core 2 Duo 8400, Asus P5QL-pro with Nvidia 8400GS graphics card.

I was also having the crash on startup issues. For me, it was apparently the webserver being enabled by default: http://forum.xbmc.org/archive/index.php/t-80299.html gave me the clue (I guess it's a build issue? http://trac.xbmc.org/ticket/9741 )

Going into C:\User\<user>\AppData\Local\Plex\userdata\guisettings.xml and changing <webserver>true</webserver> to <webserver>false</webserver> solved my issue and plex now starts correctly.

Thanks for this, but hasn't worked for me. Anyone else?

This might be a little late, but deleting the entire Plex AppData folder (C:\User\<user>\AppData\Local\Plex) worked for me.

It's easier than tracking down the specific problem. :)

Be advised that this resets your settings.
  • critter350critter350 Posts: 8Members
yeah - not too concerned about 'resetting my settings' because I've never successfully launched Plex (on this machine).
But this did not work for me either. Deleted the file, restarted PC, when I try to open Plex it crashes at or before the splash screen. This recreates the \PLex folder, so retried fatavatar's renaming, now I don't even get a splash screen, just a really quick blink.

Many thanks Fatavatar, this also worked for me on my x64 Windows 7 box.

I fixed my issue by installing a new HD (128GB OCX SSD) for the OS. Now I just have a hang issue 50% of the time after watching a movie and pressing stop. Returns to the Movies folder but won't go anywhere from there. No biggy, ctrl/alt/del fixes it every time.

None of the fixes above have worked for me. I am running Windows 7 x64. i've updated Silverlight, uninstalled, re-installed latest version of Plex Media Center numerous times, deleted the plex folder under my user profile, and it does recreate that folder upon launching PMC, but the application just NEVER loads.

I see it sitting in my Task manager process list, but i am Never able to END that process. not even using third party utilities like PSKILL. that Plex.exe always stays running until
i Reboot the computer, and it also SLOWS down Task Manager to a CRAWL..to the point where it takes a minute to navigate to another process to kill etc.

Anyone else experience behavior like this?
