Kids / Adults clients

How to have different movies in different client types
Hi,

I love Plex.

I have 2 PCs at home.

One in my room (parents room) where I want to have my plex client show me only adult content (no, not porn, just regular adult movies).
The second in the kids room where I want them to have plex but with their own movies - kids movies without adult content...

Is there a way to have one plex server with two clients holding different content?

Thanks,
Chaiavi

One way you could do it is create two separate movies sections (adult and kids) and then create an additional myPlex account. Then, you could go into your original myPlex account and share the kids' movie section with the new myPlex account. Then, you would simply have to set up the parent's tv with the original myPlex account and the kids' tv with the new myPlex account. The kids would only have access to the sections you share with their account, but the only downside is you would still have to have the kids movie section on the "adult" tv. I hope that makes sense... Let me know if I need to explain it better.

I believe if you become a plexpass member, you can also disable there broadcasting service on the PMS. So, using the above method, only the shared content will be available.

You don't need PlexPass to do this, you can use the advanced preferences -> http://wiki.plexapp.com/index.php/Plex_Media_Server_Preferences#Advanced_Preferences

    Hi Aniki,

Please can you explain. I have been looking for a workaround re separating adult/child content. If you method works (and im not saying it wont) it should be made common knowledge.

Has anyone tried this yet?? If it is done this way, does my media get sent out over the internet and back to my local network?? I wouldn't have a problem setting up an additional account. There is content that I would only want available on a single tv in my home, so I don't have to bother other users with all the quirky channels and such.

Also wanted to know if this works...
In this way, I think we can also create 2 or more list of watched/unwatched list. Just create two section w/ same movie/tv named for user A and B and share different section for respective user...

This approach does work - I use it for my kids.

I have "Films - kids", "Films", "TV - kids" and "TV".

The kids use iPods and Roku's and they sign-in to MyPlex using their own Plex ID's. I've shared the kids sections with these ID's so that they can access them, but nothing else - works well!

It also means they each have their own viewing history, so can resume the same programs/films at different points depending on when they each last watched them.

The one thing I don't like much is that Channels cannot be shared this way, so they don't have access to things like iPlayer, 4od, etc. But I'm looking into alternatives for those on their Roku's.

Thanks for letting us know. Even if it works, still hope PLEX can have original incorporated function for multiplayer watched/unwatched list and privilege control for different user. Since sometimes the library is really large, I don't want to let PLEX scan it twice....

I am a bit confused how you chose which librarys to share with which account?

I'm not using this function. But if my understanding is correct, you can goto 'my.plexapp' page and login your myplex account. And select 'servers' tab in top. And type the people's account you want to share. Then untick 'share all sections' and select the section you want to share...
