Hm.
Note that i'm not that good with linux overall so I really don't know what to do with those errors
EDIT: This is strange. Just did everything all over once again and now it actually starts (?). Some **** probably happened when I uninstalled it the non-proper way
Fortsätt med grymt arbete!
EDI2: Well, it starts and I can browse /manage. However it hangs on "Get started: Please wait a moment while Plex starts."
Any clue?
I usally just skip that part and set everything up without the guide. Caould you try that just skip the initial setup. I think there is a button for that in the webinterface.

When I do I can browse the settings but nothing "works". When adding folders to watch for example nothing happens. Pressing "install channels" is says "Kanalbiblioteket är för närvarande inte tillgängligt."
What version of Debian are you running ? and could you please do an ls -la on your /var/lib/plexmediaserver and paste the result here?

Indeed. Tho everything worked like a charm before I uninstalled it. Debian 6 64-bit it is.
He solved it by reinstalling the package again

After seeing some of the cool functions of Plex and using it with PleXBMC, I needed to try it out.
But I have a few questions, hope it's okay I ask here. I'm using VirtualBox (installed on OMV) running a virtual OMV to test it out, and have installed using the "guide" on the first page.
But first problem I ran into, is that Plex can't see my smb shares. Any easy way around this? Being a Linux noob and Google haven't helped a lot.
Secondly, how to move the database. Right now Plex gets installed on my main disk, and all the Plex data will be there as well. In case my main disk dies or I have to change it, I would love to change the location of the database.
Is there any way of testing out Plex for mobile devices with out throwing 5$ at it - a trial app perhaps?
Thanks for any help
Welcome to Plex
1: Plex doesn't support directly connecting to smb shares. You will have to mount those to your VirtualBox guest and point Plex Media Server to the path you mount them in (ensure that user plex can read the smb mount points or Plex won't pick up your media)
2: The database on linux in all the main linux branches ends here: /var/lib/plexmediaserver/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server
3: No trial apps

Wow. Thanks
1: Can I ask if you have any idea how that's done or can point me in a direction of where I can find a idiot friendly guide. I have been looking for a couple of days, and are still lost and have no clue on how to do it
2: Okay, was hoping there was a hidden option where I could pick my own location for the database. Makes it easier to backup, should something horrible happen. But thanks, now I know where I can find it
3: Bummer, well 5$ is not an insane amount of money - so will properly survive
1. something like this http://www.cyberciti.biz/tips/how-to-mount-remote-windows-partition-windows-share-under-linux.html
2. move the databse to wherever yo like and make an symlink to it from the original folder ln -sf /home/user/database.db /var/lib/plexmediaserver/bla/bla/bla/databse.db
Ofcourse use the realpaths and names
3. Give em the money !!

I've got the following issue:
I downloaded the Plex 64-Bit Version for Ubuntu and unpacked it on my Dlink DNS-325 with Debian Squeeze.
After that i tried to run your commands and got the following errors:
You are trying to install a package designed for an X86 CPU onto a NAS which has an ARM based CPU - there is no package for your NAS.
Media Storage: 2 x ReadyNas Pro Business 18TB mounted by NFS to Plex Server
Desktop Clients: 1 x Windows 7 27", 1 x 15.4 Retina MBP, 2 x17" MBP, 1 x 13" MB, 1 x13" MBA
Mobile Clients: 2 x iPhone 5s, 3 x iPhone 5, 3 x iPhone 4s, 3 x iPhone 4, 2 x iPad 3, 2 x iPad 2
Airplay & PlexConnect Targets: 4 x ATV3
that's why i tried this installation first and found a little bit later this tutorial for Debian Squeeze which installed on my NAS.
On which Server is this installation based?
Sorry for the late reply. But your wise words helped me a lot and I got it working - sort of
1. Great link, it was explain so simple I could figure it out
2. Still haven't tried it yet.
3. I tried buying it for my android tablet but can't for the life of me get it to connect to the server. And I really don't want to use myPlex and start streaming to the whole work - plus myPlex cost money right? My PleXBMC had no trouble finding it and streaming from it. BTW, does anybody know if it's the Plex Media server that does the transcoding or XBMC HTPC when using PleXBMC? Also, is it the Plex server or XBMC that handles which files have been view or how far they have been viewed. (Sorry if this is the wrong place to ask).
Myplex does not cost any money. Plexpass costs money.
when using PlexBMC no transcoding is involved at all your HTPC takes the file in its raw form and displays it unless you configure PlexBMC to use transcoded streams and then it is your PMS machine that does the transcoding.

I have installed the plexmediaserver on debian6 with MoxZ repository.
Got the same issue before mentioned.
Adding sections and folders does not work.
Any idea?
Please help.
Thanx
Can you give us some logs to lock @?

Do your folder have the right ownership and file permissions? There is a stycke thread about file permissions.
