Unfortunately still encountering the same issue, is there a chance for a debug build or should I just start looking into doing my own build?

Hmzz what version of Debian are you running ? 32 or 64 bit and what is your hardware?

    Ooops, running on 7.0, squeeze.

That CPU does not support SSE2, which is required.

Not sure what you are talking about.

Here (this thread) you can find the latest public release of PMS for Debian.

There is a thread in the Plexpass PMS forum for Plexpass releases of PMS for Debian.

They are all linked in my signature.

The Debian release of PMS is supports the the exact same things as the Ubuntu one the only difference is the start scripts.

I havent tried the i386 package myself only the amd64 on 2 different servers. And that works.

I will install it on a 32 bit system and check if I get the same problems.

Edit did just installed the 32bit package and it works for me

So now is the question what is going on for you.

    Try

    sudo su plex
    cd /usr/lib/plexmediaserver
    plex@debian-pht-i386:/usr/lib/plexmediaserver$ export PLEX_MEDIA_SERVER_MAX_PLUGIN_PROCS=6

    plex@debian-pht-i386:/usr/lib/plexmediaserver$ export PLEX_MEDIA_SERVER_MAX_STACK_SIZE=3000
    plex@debian-pht-i386:/usr/lib/plexmediaserver$ export PLEX_MEDIA_SERVER_TMPDIR=/tmp
    plex@debian-pht-i386:/usr/lib/plexmediaserver$ export PLEX_MEDIA_SERVER_APPLICATION_SUPPORT_DIR="${HOME}/Library/Application Support"
    plex@debian-pht-i386:/usr/lib/plexmediaserver$ export LD_LIBRARY_PATH="${PLEX_MEDIA_SERVER_HOME}"
    plex@debian-pht-i386:/usr/lib/plexmediaserver$ export TMPDIR="${PLEX_MEDIA_SERVER_TMPDIR}"
    plex@debian-pht-i386:/usr/lib/plexmediaserver$ ./Plex\ Media\ Server

And wee what happens if you get any error msg or something like that

I get nothing it just starts.

    Thank you for your effort.

I did all your commands and then tried to start it... got the following result.

    boyd@server:/usr/lib/plexmediaserver$ sudo su plex ./Plex\ Media\ Server
boyd@server:/usr/lib/plexmediaserver$ ps aux | grep plexmediaserver
    boyd 11672 0.0 0.0 3384 780 pts/0 S+ 20:39 0:00 grep plexmediaserver
boyd@server:/usr/lib/plexmediaserver$ sudo ps aux | grep plexmediaserver
    boyd 11677 0.0 0.0 3384 780 pts/0 S+ 20:39 0:00 grep plexmediaserver

I'm thinking I'm going to do a totalt reinstall of the system, this time 64bit :-)

    During apt-get update:

And after with apt-get install plexmediaserver

E: Unable to locate package plexmediaserver

What can be at fault here?

My bad, had "www." instead off "shell." in plexmediaserver.list

    Hi.

First thx for the chance to use Plex media server.

    My installation.

    NAS:  Open Media Vault

    Version:  0.4.28 (Fedaykin)

    Kernel:  Linux 2.6.32-5-amd64

    Cpu : AMD E-350D APU

    RAM : 4 GB DDR3

    PLEX SERVER : 0.9.7.22

    PLEX WEB : 1.0.3

Using the "sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get upgrade" commands it upgradet to this version fine, and i logged in to the plex web and upgradet the client web.

My server is shut down during night and work hours, and when i turn on the server, the plex server dosent start, or i think, i cant acces the plex web. I use this command in ssh session. "/etc/init.d/plexmediaserver start" it starts the server and i can acces the web.

This has never been an issue before? Have i done anything wrong?

Does anyone have a clue what to do, and help me?

Linux experience  NONE :-) But not afraid to use commands.

    Thx in advance.

    Brian

I'm using OMV as well and it is a great NAS setup.

I have notice two problems usually pop up in regards to plex and OMV.  First, for whatever reason during the installation of PMS sometimes the plex user does not get setup.  On your OMV GUI double check the Users tab and make sure that the user "plex" is listed there.

The second problem is that I had issues with folder permissions when trying to start PMS under the plex user.  I ended up doing the same thing as this blog post and changed the init.d script to run as the root user.  This is generally (ok almost always) considered a bad practice as it cause expose you to dragons and all kinds of bad stuff. Not that plex will cause any bad stuff, because plex is awesome. Just running programs as root in not part of the UNIX security program.

There is a lot of discussion in this forum thread regarding how to set up PMS on OMV.
