Can't connect to server - SOLVED

I'm running Windows 8 Pro & can't connect to my server from Win8 version of Plex. It works from Win7 or iOS clients though.

Adding the server manually does not work either

Are you guys able to hit your service IP address from a browser? e.g. if you're running PMS on the same box, can you browse to http://localhost:32400 and see something?

No if I put 127.0.0.1:32400 in Metro IE it doesn't work either.

Maybe some things to double check:
    • Are you *sure* that PMS is running on your local machine? :)
    • Can you connect to that machines PMS from a different machine? e.g. http://ip address of Win8 machine: 32400
    • Do you have any other software that could block network traffic?

Oh, and one other thing to check is what version of PMS you are running.

I'm running latest version of PMS that just came out (9.7.7 I think). PMS is def running on same machine & I can connect to it from any other machine using the other clients (Win7 & iOS)

It's only a problem on the new Win8 client

Oh no software that blocks network traffic other than Win 8 itself. I don't have any additional antivirus software running for example if that's what you mean

Can you double check that you can't access http://localhost:32400 from the non-metro IE. I believe that version has EPM turned on by default which stops localhost communication (http://www.julien-manici.com/blog/ie10-new-sandbox-enhanced-protected-mode-windows-8/).
If you want to interactively chat, i'm also available in Plex Chat...

Using desktop version of IE I get XML code back using that address so I guess this is a WinRT issue (I'm using Windows 8 Pro)

I have disabled my Eset AV and my Windows Firewall.

Yeah, WinRT has additional restrictions to stop cross process communication via localhost network traffic. However, since you're running Windows 8 Pro, it shouldn't be a problem...

Just to summarise then so far:
    • The application failed to auto-discover on load?
    • When attempting to manually make a connection (either to localhost, or 127.0.0.1) it failed?

Out of interest, is your server published via myPlex and have you entered your myPlex credentials?

Ah, so your server is not local, it's at 192.168.0.100:32400. Can you hit that address in a (non-metro) browser?

Yes failed to auto discover & entering manually does not work. I have entered myPlex details but not published, don't use that feature

I'm still trying to reproduce this locally with little success. Is the user account that you're launching the application with a local admin, or do they have restricted permissions?

I login to the machine running PMS & Win 8 client (same machine) with a local Admin account

I tried connecting from another Win8 machine and it worked. So for me at least problem is when a PMS & client on same box

yeah I haven't got another machine to test it with. My IPad and IPhone work fine.

My iOS clients work as well. So perhaps it is an issue when client & server on same machine?

    Sounds like it to me.
