Pin a 'How To' for new users

dirdir Posts: 17Members

For new users, there's scant information on how to do some basic things.  The forums are good but full of people that already know the basics, and for some reason there are no pinned "How To" basic threads.

This 'Skinning and UI' section is the obvious place that people will go to to find out things like:

- where can I find skins?

- where do I download them from?

- what do I need to do to install it?

If someone can answer any of these questions, perhaps this thread can get renamed and pinned to save a lot of repeat questions and frustrated new users.  It might also ease the introduction of Plex and its uptake.

As it stands, there's so much work required to sift through dozens of threads looking for basic answers that it may detract users from bothering with Plex.

    Good idea

Your right there are no real good how to's to find about plex.

My english isn't perfect but i will have a try with the start of this on

    1. Where can you get the skins

In this part of the forum the skinners show of there work and answer qeustions you may have about the different skins.

The most easy way to download skins are and install

    Mac http://forums.plexapp.com/index.php/topic/15740-preen-skin-manager/

    Windows http://forums.plexapp.com/index.php/topic/32457-plex-skin-manager/#entry207159

    For linux i don't know

Now i know that the windows skin manager still have bugs, it's also wise to run it in administrator.

For the people who don't know how to run it in administrator mode just right click on the plex skin manager and click then on "run as administrator"

(if i'm wrong just let me know and i will change this how to)

Then there also the old fasion way of downloading the skin from github.

Most say about all skinners have placed also the github link of there skins in there skin topic

Just download the skin that you like from github (use the zip button on github if directed to the github page)

Unzip and rename the resulting folder 'skin.(skin name)' and place it in the folder located at:
    (MAC) ~/Library/Application Support/Plex/Addons
    (PC) C:\Program Files (x86)\Plex\Plex Media Center\addon

Make sure that everything is just in one folder else it don't work

I know this is just the basic of the basic and i will try to make it bigger and better with more answers.

Maybe also other more experienced users can help so we can make this a very good how to
