Hi and welcome to the forums,

You have misunderstood what Plex Media Server is. It is not (at least for the moment) not designed to work with anything else than Plex. PS3 might see the instance but I can not play anything from it.
PMS serves online content to Plex, and if Im not totally mistaken also plays a key role in the bonjour solution where other Plex instances on your network can see other Plex instances sources.

EDIT: This post is 5 years old. People seem to forget to check the date on these advices for some reason :) PMS has for a couple of years now been able to play movies via DLNA. Just enable DLNA in PMS settings and you should be able to play.

Just get ps3mediaserver and point it to the same dirs as your plex media.

But u cannot see shared content which is the draw of plex imho. There are many better mediaservers than plex out there. Would be nice to see a plex app for ps3 someday.

You are aware that you just replied to a 5 year old thread right? :)
