Well, I'm just about to give up on Plex. It just will not add any new TV shows into my existing Media Manager setup since around 3 weeks ago. Everything I add just shows "skipping over..." in the log file. I tried removing something already recognised (S1 of Terra Nova) and re-adding it; now that will not appear in Media Manager. I've tried everything listed in here; deep scan, turbo scan, removing the directories and re scanning then adding them back and rescanning. Nothing works, and I just don't know why.

If I create a whole new Library Section for each show, then they do appear. Is that how Plex is supposed to work? One Library Section per show?

Regards, Tony

The screenshot you included shows that you're actually not using the same naming convention for both series. What you have for GI: Joe is the correct way to name a multi-episode file. See the "Naming Guide" linked in my signature. For 30 Rock, the correct way would be:

30 Rock - s05e20-e21.avi
The display you see in the client for GI: Joe is the correct and expected way. You're telling the Plex Media Server that you have episodes 1 through 5, so those five episodes are listed. Since they're all actually the same file, that same file gets played when you select an episode to play. If you wish to be able to individually access/play episodes, you'd need to split the file so that each episode is an individual file.

Chris
Thanks for the suggestions. I should note that I am using the #x## convention as I believe it was written that you could use either in Plex .8?? Either way I have about 70+ shows that use that convention that work fine.

Honestly, my questions about the combined episodes are really not a big deal and not a showstopper for me... If I find other examples in my library, I'll update the group for everyone's benefit.

Okay,

So i am new to Plex - only been using it for a week and so far i love it!

However i am having difficulty getting it to recognise "Game of Thrones" Season 1. I have created a folder for TV Shows. Within that folder is a folder for Game of Thrones, and within that a folder titled Season 1. I then have the episodes named "Game of Thrones - S01E01.avi" however not even one episode is showing in my Media Server. The only other TV show i have so far is True Blood - which i have all four seasons. Each episode of TB in all four seasons is showing in my Media Server.

Now like i said i am new to this so i have no idea what i am doing wrong! I cannot even play my iTunes music library through Plex - I should probably mention i am using Plex to stream the content wirelessly to my LG TV.

I noticed at the beginning of this thread that i need to include information from my logs - to be honest with you, i cannot find my logs! I am running OSX version 10.7.3 if that helps... Any assistance would be greatly appreciated as i am stumped!

Thanks in advance,

Aaron

Does not matter anymore - i have figured out the problem. I had set up Plex to only read TV Shows from the True Blood folder and not the parent TV Shows folder. Now that i have changed it Game of Thrones is recognised! All good :)

Any tips for getting PMS to recognize the Robot Chicken Star Wars episodes. Here's how they are named on my hard drive:

/MEDIA/TV Shows/Robot Chicken/Robot Chicken-Star Wars.mp4
/MEDIA/TV Shows/Robot Chicken/Robot Chicken-Star Wars Episode II.mp4
/MEDIA/TV Shows/Robot Chicken/Robot Chicken-Star Wars Episode III.mp4

Okay, I spent a lot of time a couple months back downloading posters for my 2.5yod's movies, almost none of which are recognized by the scrapers. This is handy since her mode of picking movies is to watch us scroll through them on the Roku and shout out something like "Turtle movie!" when she sees the artwork for "Baby Einstein: Baby Neptune". However, the other night when I fired it up, almost all the artwork was missing. I'm now upstairs on the Mac with PMS, and the posters are missing here as well. It isn't just her movies, our main movie section is affected as well - but most of our movies are scrapable so it's not as bad there.

I am NOT looking forward to downloading all these posters again. I have Time Machine... where does Plex store this stuff? I tried ~/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Media and Metadata, but rolling them back didn't fix it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

You'll need to follow the naming guide, as well as what the episodes are called on www.thetvdb.com

e.g. /MEDIA/TV Shows/Robot Chicken/Season 0/Robot Chicken - S00E04 - Robot Chicken- Star Wars Special.mp4

etc etc

Hi there,

I've used plex before a long time ago and loved it, since then it got lost into the abyss, I now have a new computer running a swanky new Lion!
I've just downloaded Plex, but when I load it up, the only options are "Search", "Channel Directory", "Preferences" and "Quit" (Channel directory has no content and I can't seem to interact with it in any way)
I have checked my Library/Logs, but there is only "plex.log" and "plex.old.log", no mention of scanners

Is there a way to force a scan? My media is all in Lion/Users/(My name)/Movies/Movies/ and then is in various folders, I.e. /City Lights/City Lights.avi

Help please?

Thanks!

Fraser

Hi,

Make sure you have also downloaded the Plex Media Server component. Plex was split into Media Server and Media Center components a while back and it sounds like you have only installed the Media Centre part. The Media Server (PMS) does all the media management, and the Media Centre (PMC) views the actual content.

What I need to do is find out if stacked files work with roku. I have several movies that are cd1 and cd2, but only cd1 shows up in roku. I followed the naming directions carefully after the first one wouldn't play the second half of the movie.

The whole reason I have the roku box is that I don't want to watch tv or movies on my computer. I thought this streaming thing would be wonderful (and it is! :) ), but roku is only playing the first of the two files for stacked file movies.

If this is not implemented now, will it be in the future?

osx5.8 here.

It doesn't currently support stacked files - it's on a todo list but given it's only really useful for files of dubious legality and there are many ways to join the files into a single file as a workaround and from what I have read it doesn't have a very high priority at all.

Then why does the wiki have explicit instructions for stacking files? Are you the one programming the plex server, or just the one who answers the questions? I can see you have a lot of gadgets so you must really know what you're talking about. But, I find it baffling that the wiki has instructions for stacking, and you seem to disapprove. I mean really?

Because there are many more clients than just the Roku client, the server supports stacking as does some of the other clients (the desktop clients do, as do the IOS clients) I am not approving/disapproving anything, you can do what you like - I'm just trying to help you with options so you can make the best decision you can.

Have a show called "The Life Of Buddha" - its TheTVDB entry is The Life Of Buddha

The scanner doesn't pick up the show when scanning.

I can rename the file to something like "Discovery Channel Documentaries - 1x170 - Human Cloning.avi" and then manually use Fix Incorrect Match and search by the shows ID which is 93161 and the item will be corrected but the file name is wrong.

What name should I be using for the file.

I just upgraded my Plex Media Server from 0.9.5.3 to 0.9.6.1 (latest) on a Mac. Everything finished ok, and the media server start up ok. When I open the Plex client I see my library (Movies, TV Shows, etc) properly, as I could before the upgrade. The thing is that when I try to open the Media Manager from the menu, my library is empty, with no sections, no collections and no content metadata, although the data still exist, since I can see them in the client plus when I refresh the library it refers to all my sections correctly.

Any ideas?

Have you tried completely closing/quitting the Plex Media Server on the computer and then re-opening it? That's definitely some very odd behavior.

Also, what do you see if you look at the PMS via the web manager (http://localhost:32400/manage) rather than via the standard cocoa UI Media Manager?

My "TV Section" keeps reverting to "Movies". I am guessing this is why new TV shows don't show up. When I delete the section and start over, it adds the new files. But after the initial scan it reverts back to "Movies" and no shows are added. Is this a recognized issue? Am I doing something wrong?
