No problems we will hang fire until advised.

We are all running 16Mb Internet and the streaming quality direct from the Sky site is v good, so no issues there.

Thanks in advance

Same connection speed as me...

Hopefully we can get this working well! No doubt as soon as I get all the issues resolved, they'll redo the website again! :)

That's probably because other people are much better at writing plugins than me :)

The SkyGo website requires some pretty complicated authentication and the code uses a number of timeouts in order to determine when to move to the next stage. I've been meaning to get round to this for a while but struggled to find the time. It's one of my top priorities, after finishing a SoundCloud plugin. I've found that sometimes when I try and OnDemand video, then go to Live, it seems to work. I'll repost once i've managed to get round to looking into it further...

Sorry again!

Hahaha no appreciate the work you have put in will be awesome once it's up and running!

I have tried 4OD and this seems ok is there any similiarities between the sky and i player plugins that they are not working maybe a flash issue or something that i can try as a work around or maybe a OSX issue?

Thanks for your help

Hi there.
What a great plugin, only problem seems to be is, I watch a program on Anytime+ using the Sky Go. The mouths go out of sync after a few minutes. If I stop what I am watching and restart it, when I try to fast forward, the screen sits there with the cog spinning around for ages, but, the sound to the current program is playing through my mac speakers and not on the ATV2?
Any ideas please as to why this happens?
Cheers
Paul

Hey,

At the moment, it's not possible to fast foward/rewind the plugin (annoying, I know!). This is the reason that this plugin is technically not supported by iOS. However, i'm guessing you turned off the "Check Capabilities" option in PMS in order for it to appear on the ATV2?

Are you able to run this on the OSX client? Does it also show the same out of sync issues? If not, then this is likely to be an issue with the ATV2 client (maybe PMS) and not the plugin. I'm sorry, I'm not sure if I can be a huge help here. The plugin reaches a point (i.e. finds the video) and passes off to PMS and the client. After that, I have no control...

Thanks Ian,
Thats all I needed to know that I can not fast forward, saves me trying over and over, I have not tried to watch it on my mac, but after I have finished watching the current film, I will give it a go and report back.

Thanks for letting me know
Regards
Paul.

Hi Ian,

Since there is now silverlight support for the new Windows Plex client I installed the sky go plugin but it seems to be stuck on "Opening Stream" forever. I also installed other plugins that use webkit/silverlight and they worked fine. Any ideas?

BTW I was only able to install the plugins(video channels) from my LG Medialink client, there seems to be an issue installing from the windows client.

Hi everyone

Here are my experiences with Sky Go on Plex Laika and new media server:

Works ok, but have to open the stream 3 times as I keep getting user/pass error... it finally works after 3 attempts.

When I try to watch via the plex ios app on the ipad, unable to open stream and it crashes the PMS.

When using Plexit to add a movie to a queue, same things happen... 3 attempts to open it on plex laika, it then works
But yet again, fails to open via ipad and crashes the PMS.

Ah well, just thought I would share in case anyone else is having these problems?

Otherwise, a great app when it fully works... I look forward to an update to stop all the crashing.

Keep up the good work

Steve

UPDATE: So using plexit with skygo via safari will play the videos on main plex (mac mini), but still no luck on plex ipad app.
Plexit does not work with skygo whilst using google chrome... which is a shame.

Sorry, i've been away on holiday for a while and managed to miss this...

I'll pass the crash onto the Plex guys as it's thankfully not my plugin. However, just to point out, this plugin is technically NOT support on iOS. I have seen such crashes when attempting to fast-forward/rewind/pause, etc on the iOS client, which the plugin is not able to do, therefore PMS barfs. Will still try to grab some time to look into it though, PMS should never crash :)

Update
I'm sorry for the delay in getting round to further working on this. Those observant of you will have noticed i've been helping out with a number of other plugins. However, last night I had a little break through with the quality of Live Channels. Previously, the quality was pretty crap and didn't use the configuration option within the Preferences. But.... I think i've managed to resolve all the issues I was having. I pushed an update to Plex last night so if it's not already in the store, it will be soon. Let me know if it works for you!!!

Next: More reliable login/playback...

Not too sure if this is a coincidence or not from your last upgrade, but when I try to install the plugin from within Plex 0.9.3.4-7c7787e on Snow Leopard, I don't get the plugin showing on the plugins screen so I can't start it at all.

I can see the log files ok and the bundle is there, but I just can't see it in the Video Plugins menu at all.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled the plugin a few times and restarted the plex media server to no avail....

Hey,

Sorry to hear your having trouble! The changes that I made had actually nothing to do with the code that the plugin uses to load and navigate, therefore I don't believe the update could have caused this. Are you able to install/un-install other plugins via the store? I think that I would need to see some of the other logs as well, please attach copies of:
  • ~/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Plug-ins/....skyplayer.log
  • ~/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Plex Media Server.log

Thanks,
Ian

Did anyone find a fix for the missing plug-in? I have uninstalled/reinstalled several times to no avail.

I know it's working OK because I did a search for Sky Go with in Plex and it found a clip from Sky Go which played fine and the quality was much improved from previously.

I would love to be able to use it now it's working well.

Fixed it!

Ticking "Disable Capability Checking" in preferences solved the problem.

It's now a brilliant plugin. Thanks Ian.

A couple of things I have noticed with the Sky Go plugin:

It seems a little unstable in that it doesn't always work and it has crashed Plex and the Media Manager a couple of times.

Also, strangely, when it's working it doesn't fill the screen like other Plex videos do. On my 37 inch TV I get approx. half an inch of black border around the video.

Even so it is perfectly usable when it's running and much better than having to go through the motions of logging in via the website each time you want to view something.

Brilliant Ian, love it. I'd been having some issues with changing channels, but found that as long as I actually stop the stream, rather than hitting Escape or just starting a new channel with the iPad, then it works fine. Thanks again.

I take it this plug-in won't work if your running a ATV for the plex client and Ubuntu as your plex server no fault to the plugin developer but more due to the fact that silverlight does not work with Ubuntu and also the DRM issue.
If anyone has managed to get the above combination to work would be interested in hearing from you.

TIA :)
