UPDATE:

I need to update info here. If your looking for SUSE RPM's, the official Plex CentOS/Fedora ones are also SUSE aware, so please install those, I won't be maintaining these custom builds any more since I merged it into the CentOS/Fedora RPM's.

/Mark

Happy friday the 13th smile.gif

After several request, i decided to try out and remake my CentOS/Fedora RPM's to SUSE. They required a little work to fit SUSE instead of CentOS/Fedora, and are still in the test phase. But feel free to try them out. I have fittet them to work on OpenSUSE 12.1, but have yet to try it on other SUSE version.

Please provide feedback if you have any issues, and I will try and incorporate it as I get time for it.

Get them here: http://plexrpms.markwalker.dk/suse

Your welcome, I will be updating these with the releases from the official thread. Havn't considered a repo yet, since I'm still not sure how many users actually use the SUSE RPM's.

Hi Mark!

Thanks for briging Plex to SuSE!

I tried install the rpm to a SLES11SP1 server, but ran into dependency problems:

rpm -i plexmediaserver-0.9.6.1.89-1-SUSE.x86_64.rpm
error: Failed dependencies:
libstdc++.so.6(GLIBCXX_3.4.11)(64bit) is needed by plexmediaserver-0.9.6.1.89-1.x86_64

From the Novell repos there's only 3.3 and 4.3 available (both installed).

Does is require 3.4 explicit?

I would assume that the glibc in sles 11sp1 does not include glibc 3.4.11, plex is compiled up against that version.. If you upgrade to sp2 that might havea newer glibc, but I am not at work and dont have a sp2 install to test on.

Think you are the first i know of that is trying it on sles 11, I testet it on openSUSE, since its free :b

If you upgrade can you let me know if it works?

Thank You for this Mark!

I am not a developer. I don't know how this goes.

Do you think we could convince the developers that they provide source data at least for the BuildService?

These rpms are based on the binaries from Ubuntu, so when you say build src's do you mean the spec file and the other script/config stuff I packaged around the binaries?

Or what type of src data are you looking for? Please note that all PMS code is not open src and freely avail.

Again we have new SUSE RPM's.

Avail here: http://plexrpms.mark...k/suse/0.9.6.5/

As a fix for PMS not creating $PLEX_MEDIA_SERVER_APPLICATION_SUPPORT_DIR on some 0.9.6.4 install, we updated the init script to check for this on startup and create it if not there.

Enjoy.

Hey just wanted to say thank you for these! I saw your posts that you just whipped these up for us susers just to be nice, so my hats off to you. It is greatly appreciated. Oh and happy fri. the 13th again!

Im sorry i'm a bit of a total noob here, is there any sort of info on how to make this work? I couldn't actually get it to run on Opensuse 12.1 or 12.2.

[Edit]--ok after looking at the fedora RPM threads, i see when run ./Plex\Media\Server I get the error for missing dependencies, which I now see has something to do with running the service under the Plex user, but as in Fedora, i can't su into the Plex User, so i have no idea how to start the service. Also, im not sure if theres supposed to be, but there is no /bin/Plex script. The server seems to start at boot, but errors. I assume I just need to start the service once first...

Anyway Thanks for your help! and these RPMs.

Thank you.

To make it work, normally its just install the rpm.

Then run either /etc/init.d/plexmediaserver start or systemctl start plexmediaserver.service

The reverse applies for stopping it.

/etc/init.d/plexmediaserver stop or systemctl stop plexmediaserver.service

Your welcome.

Though note that Plex Media Server is closed source, and cannot be compiled from scratch. So the workaround that works for most linux's, is to repackage the Ubuntu binaries, just like I did. Those binaries are fairly close to generic versions, that are tested on a broad variety of Linux flavors.

Enjoy
