0.9.8.8

A much larger update is in the works, but it's not quite ready to show off yet. This is a rather minor update to fix a few issues (iTunes/iPhoto channels).

  • Added support for shared users to set their own Plex/Web settings without showing the rest of the media server settings.
  • Updated translations and added several new languages.
  • Fixed iTunes (music) and iPhoto channels.
  • Fixed issue where the Flash video player would occasionally not load.
  • Fixed error caused by parsing invalid JSON from the web socket.
  • Attempt to use Flash to play music first to avoid certain HTML5 audio issues. Fall back to HTML5 audio if the Flash player doesn't load.
  • Allow mp4 videos with ac3 audio to be directly played.

If you don't have a Wii U, then you probably won't be too interested in this update. If you do, then I think you will be pleased to hear that the issue preventing Wii U video playback has been fixed.

  • Fixed issue preventing video playback on the Wii U

0.9.9.5

It's been a little while since our last update, but I think you'll find that the longer the wait is, the bigger the update will be. It is certainly true with this update. We've also added some frequently requested features such as global On Deck and Recently Added.

  • Updated the design and structure of most of the application
  • Added global On Deck and Recently Added widgets to the Dashboard
  • Added Friend Requests widget to the Dashboard
  • Updated the dashboard to be smarter about what widgets it displays and how it displays them
  • Added ability to select items through the action bar (the keyboard shortcuts still work as they did)
  • Updated the sidebar to automatically open if it was last left open
  • Separated By Folder mode so different list types can be used while browsing folders
  • Added support for search within channels
  • Added support for settings within channels
  • Improved caching when browsing channels
  • Added support for theme music in the details views (go to the Plex/Web general settings to enable)
  • Added support for syncing selected items
  • Added default quality sync settings
  • Added a shortcut to the channel directory settings from the Plex Media Server settings (thanks Walter H)
  • Improved the specificity of error messages where possible
  • Added a shortcut for emptying trash for all sections to the dashboard
  • Added genre to edit artist view
  • Removed content rating from edit album view

0.9.9.8

If you've been paying attention to the blog, you've probably watched the video of the new Android app. One of the new features coming is the ability to advertise your device as a server. This Plex/Web update primarily prepares us for this brave new world by allowing sections that do not support advanced filtering and sorting to be browsed.

  • Added support for browsing "limited" sections (e.g. sections advertised by a media server on your phone)
  • Added shortcuts for play and edit to the episode list
  • Added subtitle format to the dropdown on preplay views
  • Restore the previous volume for music and videos
  • Updated translations
  • Fixed bug when switching the type with filter options open
  • Fixed the links for clips in search results
  • Fixed a couple localization issues

0.9.9.11

We've been focused on a couple other web-related things lately (e.g. the new forums), but we're back to Plex/Web with this update. We're bringing support for the new transcoder (used by sync). This should fix a lot of video-related issues like certain subtitle formats not working and io errors when seeking. Unfortunately, you need at least the 0.9.7.17 release of the Plex Media Server which isn't quite available yet. When the next version is released, download it and Plex/Web should automatically start using the new transcoder.

  • Added support for the new transcoder (requires Plex Media Server 0.9.7.17)
  • Added Announcements widget to dashboard
  • Added unwatched icon to the episode list underneath the video player
  • Do not load google analytics if the user has unchecked the "Send anonymous usage data" setting
  • Updated translations and added new languages
  • Fixed music playback for high bitrate mpeg4 or mp3 tracks
  • Fixed the setup wizard showing up if the wizard was initially skipped
  • Fixed the browse button being displayed in the channel modal for agents
  • Fixed bug with "Publishing server…" not updating its state
  • Fixed bug selecting which media to play by bitrate

0.9.9.12

For everyone who has been wanting a way to customize everything about their dashboard, this update allows you to take a giant step in that direction. PlexPass users will now be able to reorder widgets, disable widgets, and change widget-specific settings. Don't like the large thumbnail for the first channel? There's now a setting for that. You don't need a PlexPass to benefit from all changes. All users can now toggle a setting to change their dashboard from a fixed width to expand to the full width of the page. Announcements have also been updated based on some user feedback to indicate the date of the announcement as well as a button to mark announcements as read. This lets you hide the announcements widget until a new announcement is made.

One other part of Plex/Web that sees a lot of change in this update is photo sections. Photo albums now have their own view, allowing users to change the poster and background of a photo album. We've also rebuilt the photo viewer, introducing features like a slideshow, animations, and remote play.

Here's the full changelog:

  • Added ability to reorder and disable dashboard widgets (PlexPass only)
  • Added settings for individual dashboard widgets (PlexPass only)
  • Added dates and a mark as read button to the announcements widget
  • Added setting to maximize the width of the dashboard
  • Added photo album details view
  • Added support for changing photo album posters and backgrounds
  • Created new photo viewer with transitions, slideshows, and remote play
  • Added ability to remotely play tracks and albums
  • Added ability to sync individual tracks
  • Added an info modal for agents when available
  • Added direct stream setting for player
  • Added indication of forced subtitles in the subtitle dropdown
  • Support channels sending a message back (most likely because the channel is broken)
  • Remember if the user was in Plex/Web or Plex Media Server Settings last and restore that view
  • Updated translations
  • Fixed bug related to multi-file and multi-part videos with the new transcoder
  • Fixed positioning of backgrounds to be in the center
  • Fixed Firefox bug with split buttons in the channel modal

1.0.0

Plex/Web has come a long way since our initial release to PlexPass subscribers and we've finally hit the 1.0 milestone seven months later. Does that mean we will now slow down the pace of development? Of course not. Nothing really has changed and we will continue to bring new features and bug fixes as fast as possible.

NEW:

  • Added support for resuming multi-part videos
  • Added better server connection testing
  • Show an error in the channel directory if the directory requests fail
  • Show a more relevant error if the initial request to myPlex times out and authentication is required
  • Show a more relevant error if no searches can be made
  • Show the video codec as well as the resolution/bitrate when selecting which file to play
  • Stack items in Recently Added if possible

FIXES:

  • Always use the transcoder if subtitles are selected for a video
  • Fixed the stacked confirmation alerts when marking multiple shows as (un)watched
  • Fixed the tagline disappearing when refreshing a movie
  • Fixed issues with the new photo viewer and old channels (iPhoto)
  • Fixed some videos not being marked as watch after finishing playback
  • Fixed not seeing multiple owned servers on the same network when accessed remotely
  • If the resume modal or select quality modal is closed, navigate back instead of playing the video

Along with some bug fixes, this version of Plex/Web brings a new look to the music player. You'll now see album art next to the artist and track title in the music player and you can navigate between tracks quickly with previous and next buttons. Take a look at an example below:

AR4McmN.png

NEW:
  • Overhauled the music player. Added previous/next buttons and album art.
  • Improved how downloading sync items are shown in the sync status.
  • Respect the quality setting when deciding whether to directly play a video.
  • Added support for triggering media analysis for single items.
  • Updated translations.

  • Fixed intermittent resume issue in Safari.
  • Fixed synced seasons/episodes/albums not having the show/artist in the title.

This update has just a few bug fixes and some style updates. Direct Play should work as expected again and hopefully some more resuming issues are resolved.

NEW:
  • Small style changes to buttons, inputs, and posters.
  • Updated translations.

FIXES:
  • Attempt to seek more aggressively when using the Flash video player.
  • Fixed issue when comparing qualities in direct play decision.
