I had one of those computing moments today where everything was going according to plan and then when I went to execute… fizzer.
So I’ve got the QNAP TS-459 Pro and I have installed the Plex media server on it. I have a Samsung television and I have installed the Plex client for that television on it. I used cable to hook everything up and the television could see the file in the folder which I had added via the web interface (an mkv).
Via the client, I selected the mkv and a loading image displayed for about 30 seconds and then I was returned to the Plex layout. That is, the movie wouldn’t play.
Something must have been working properly, because the Plex server was able to go out to the Internet and retrieve meta data about that MKV.
I know the movie is good as it plays using VLC. In fact, it plays fine if I play it using PLEX through a web browser on my PC.
To further eliminate suspects, I dropped another mkv which I had made myself from the DVD itself. The Plex client on the television was able to play that file.
So, does anyone have any idea what the problem could be with regards to the other file? It seems very strange. If I can play it locally on the media server, then it obviously has the required codec.
