For now to temporally solve the problem, you can use one of the method below:

  1. You can disable burn subtitle by change the option in the player settings, changing it from “automatic” to “only image format”. This will make the Asian text show correctly, but the layout will be plain text. The format defined in ass is lost.

  2. Use the kodi plugin version. This version of plex media player can play the ass subtitle perfectly.

  3. fallback to older version of plex media server
