4K Playback

All,

I have the following server config (running as VM on E3-1241 v3 @ 3.5ghz)

  • 3GB of RAM
  • 3 Processors / 2 cores ea (6 total)

For playback of 4k what is preferred:

  • Apple TV 4k (ok with LOSSY (non-TrueHD, etc) audio) -_ preference_
  • XBOX One S
  • NVidia Shield

Tried on the Xbox One S, but buffers. Likely due to some transcoding happening.

Xbox One 4k is horrendous. NO HDR and no ATMOS. There should only be transcoding if you are using an atmos track or dts-ma from my understanding though.

Good to know - sounds like either the ATV4 and NVidia. I have my 4ks saved with Atmos / TrueHD. That being said - which would be better?

I have the Shield into a Denon X3400 and handles all my 4k out any issues - Audio passthrough all working on all Atmos and DTS-x. No complaints, shield rules at this price point

Shield TV hands down.

I purchased a Shield purely for HDR 4k remuxes.
Not my favourite client aesthetically but by far the most capable Including my dedicated HTPC.
