It was 720p when it was 1280x720! But back then it was 2.4:1 content matted into a 16:9 frame. It was carrying around a bunch of dead pixels!
Then it got a shave and a haircut and its legs cut off. The letterboxing bars were removed. And some garbage pixels on the edges cropped off.
Now it’s … something else. Is it still a coupe if it has 4 doors? Is it a “Turbo” if it’s just a fast Porsche? What the heck is a jumbo shrimp?
It’s confused. No identity.
I DO understand. I’m just being silly. 720p is “wrong”, but it’s useful. It’s the same quality that 720p video would be. Vs. 576p, which is wrong in a useless way.
Mostly I just wanted to complain about “Turbo” on electric Porsches.
I’ve solved this myself by upgrading my movies to 1080p, and always ignoring resolution for TV.
