8 movie files in seperate folder but 1 shows up

I have a folder with all harry potter movies, they are all in a seperate folder (because subtitles) See it as Movies > Harry Potter > Harry potter 1 > Harry potter1.mp4. But only the 4th movie shows up. There is no difference in filetype and no difference in the files in that folder. They are not showing up in unmatched or duplicates. I removed the folder with all movies from the library and the movie count went from 207 to 206. I deleted the trash and scanned the library again when i readded the folder. Only HP4 shows up. It did work, but it doesnt anymore. Anyone any clue as to why?

Using a synology ds220+ and looking using the local ip

I guess Plex is mismatching the videos as duplicates of one of them. If you click :pencil2: and go to the Info tab… does it list all 8 movies?

Side note: if you experience this with a different movie and don’t know into which movie the different files got merged you can also filter your library for Duplicates to identify those.

In order to fix this you have 2 options:

  1. [Quick Win] Click on > Split Apart (from the context menu of that movie) and subsequently manually match the resulting individual items.
  2. [Sustainable] Rename your files to reflect the correct movie title / release year and add those files to your library again (probably you’ll need to do a Plex Dance to complete this to undo the incorrect match – this will be more work it’ll save you future effort if you ever have to rebuild your library
    Example:
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004), Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005)

Is it matching all the movies as segments of a single movie? If the files are all numbered “Harry Potter1” and “Harry Potter2” etc etc, then I worry it is combining them into a single file/entry, thinking you had yourself split the file into 8 parts. If that happened, Plex helpfully combines them into one entry and does not give any indication that there are “duplicates” or “unmatched”. It might show up if you click Get Info on the video file, and it lists all 8 files and their location.

The solution for that is to rename the files. I don’t know of any way to force Plex to split if you use the numbering scheme that Plex takes as a Single movie, multiple files.
