A couple of quick questions

I’ve managed to get onto Rasplex.com using a different computer, not sure why I can’t connect with my main computer but never mind. I’ve downloaded the installer and now all I need to do is wait for my pi 2 to be delivered tomorrow, whilst I’m waiting I’d like to ask a couple of questions.

Q1. Will I be able to use the mini jack audio out to connect to amp to listen to audio from video? I’m getting a hi fi berry DAC but until that arrives and there’s an update that allows us to get video audio out of that I’m hoping to just use the mini jack.

Q2. Is it necessary for me to buy the licenses for the video codecs from the RaspberryPi website, or will my server just transcode any files that can’t be played?

Q3. I saw a remote power board linked in another thread, this looked like it might be quite useful but when I checked it out in the manufacturers website I wasn’t sure if it could be used alongside a hifiberry DAC as they look like they occupy the same place on the Pi 2. Can they be used alongside each other or is it a matter of choosing one or the other?

Sorry for the noob questions, I’ve been trying to find a Plex client I’m happy with and after reading the positive comments on the board I’m hoping that Resplex is THE ONE!

In answer to your questions:

  1. Yes you can, however, if your amp has an HDMI input, connect the Pi direct to the Amp and then the Amp to the TV.

  2. You can let PMS transcode but for the minimal cost it’s worth installing the licences.

  3. You can only use either HiFiBerry or RemotePi Board not both, limitation of hardware, no piggyback connectors. Again if your receiver has HDMI inputs use those, forget the HiFiBerry and use the RemotePi Board.

Excellent!

What licenses are you talking about ?

I’m a totally newbie on Raspberry so sorry for the silly question. I’m assuming you have a raspbian SO, doesn’t it come with it ?

thanks

These are codec licences see http://www.raspberrypi.com/license-keys/

Rasplex is not based on Raspbian, however even for that OS you still need the codec licences if you wish to play anything that uses an MPEG-2 or VC-1 codec.
