# Add a Random Sort option for Smart Playlists

I have seen many posts on this topic but cannot determine if it was ever implemented or out right rejected. So if you would indulge me.
Although there is a manual work around to random sorting a playlist, I am requesting it be added to the user interface as follows:
From this menu, you would get the new option
Very convenient for us Plex users.

This is only an issue when the library view mode is set to Tracks.
Set your library to Album or Artist view mode.
Set the sort mode to “Randomly”
Build your filter
Save it as a smart playlist
(Notice the address line of your web browser containing `%26sort%3Drandom%2` as part of the URL)

I did as you suggested using the web version of the interface and still cannot find the sort mode “Randomly” anywhere. A picture would be helpful. Thanks.

Just change the URL to `sort%3Drandom` while in track view.

Use a current Plex server software version.
And use the [hosted web app](https://app.plex.tv/).

Figured out the problem. I was using Table View (conveniently lists the artists without their pics) and in Table View the sort option is not displayed. When I changed the Grid View, the sort option is displayed, and yes “Randomly” is listed. Not sure why the “view” mode should limit the appearance of this option, but it does. Thanks for your patience and help with this. Note to Plexginners - perhaps we can ad the sorting option for both views?

Because you sort the table view by clicking on the column headers.

Of course. Therefore by extension Table View should include a means to sort Randomly (somewhere, perhaps as I originally suggested) to provide equivalency. Or not, as now I can easily switch view to select randomly before saving the playlist…

While it’s been some years since you originally discussed this feature suggestion…
You can also easily create such a smart playlist from within Plexamp (filtering the library and apply Random as sort order from the library view‘s context menu).
