# Agent configuration not persisting and not functioning

Currently, I can not get the Metadata Agent configuration to persist, as outlined here:[https://support.plex.tv/articles/200241558-agents/](https://support.plex.tv/articles/200241558-agents/). For example, if I pick “Movies”, then “The Movie Database”, all of the new settings appear. There is no way to “save” this setting, so when I click away, this configuration reverts to previous settings. Furthermore, the “Local Media Assets” setting for Music (Artists) is not pulling the metadata from my files. This used to work pretty well, but now it’s very hit-or-miss. For example, I have an album with 18 tracks, that used to be broken up in to 3 discs, and it was tagged as such. When I remove the “disc” tags and number the tracks 1-18, all with the same album name, they no longer merge into the same album. Plex is still seeing the “disc” tags and separating out those tracks into different albums.

Further more… when using the “Refresh Metadata” on an individual album, _sometimes_ the metadata refreshes properly. However, when selecting the artist and refreshing all metadata, it always reverts to incorrect tags.

And… I just spent a few hours fixing all the metadata for one artist’s set of music, then it just reverted. HELP!

Those settings autosave, so if not, something is wrong. Can you reproduce and provide your [server logs.](https://support.plex.tv/articles/200250417-plex-media-server-log-files/)

That’s not what that setting is for, it’s for external files. For embedded data, there is another setting within the music library itself.

1. I’ve enabled the “Prefer local metadata” setting. I think the reason this got disabled is that I moved my library to a new disk. I had to reconfigure the “Add folders” section to use my new location as the source. However, I wouldn’t have expected making that sort of change would _disable_ this setting that I had been using for years. Weird. At any rate, I’ll use it with this enabled and see if that fixes the issue.

I’m not seeing anything strange in your logs. I do see where you are changing the settings and they are being registered. Is it possible that your browser is caching these pages so it just appears that the settings are not being applied?

I just tested using an incognito window in Chrome. Same result. I also tested using Microsoft Edge… same result. The settings will not persist.

I didn’t notice any errors in your logs but maybe something wrong with the agents. Can you try a repair install of PMS? That’s manually running the installer for the version you have and hitting repair when it ask you what to do.

Where do I go to get the installer for my specific version? When I go to the website, and use the download section, I’m not given any options to pick a version. I’m only presented with one version. I’m currently on 4.101.1.

That is the web version. Look for the other General section further down to see your Plex Media Server version.
We do not provide links to older versions. Only the latest version is available. Try installing the latest version. That may also fix your issue.
You can also check your current Plex Media Server app data folder. If you use Plex Web to update Plex Media Server, the 3 latest versions will be kept under an “Updates” folder.

Ok, that is the latest public version. If you can’t find it in your updates folder, you can grab that from our downloads page. When you run it, it will ask if you want to repair, since it’s already installed. Say yes and let it complete. Then check if the issue persist.
