Hi
Has anyone tested the UHD 770 on alder lake for hardware transcoding?
I’m curious how many parallel transcodes can it take.
I would be amazed if it even functions right now. Typically it takes the Plex team a little while to bake in the support needed for hardware transcoding on a new generation of chip.
I don’t think there is any attention on this yet.
Engineering is working on finishing the the 11th Gen -11xxx1 CPUs.
If the new CPU is desired, I recommend letting Windows handle it.
Todays server update says it supports 12th Gen CPU. Hopefully someone will benchmark it!
12th Gen GPU, not CPU
Oops! Thx for the correction.
I just built a new server around a i7-11700 and it transcodes like a sumbitch.
Now we just need to know exactly how much one “sumbitch” equals to, so that we can benchmark it against earlier generations
Slightly less than a s**t load, but slightly more than a crap ton.
Is that more than a f**kton?
“sumbitch” is one of my relatives. Do we know each other?
I think f**k ton slots right above sh*t load.

I had 13 streams transcoding at the same time and the CPU was hitting between 24% & 50%. A single 1080 transcode is about .5%
CPU seems high, are you using iGPU hardware transcoding? Maybe doesn’t support yet?
Not sure what that is. I have an i7-11700 and an nvidia GTX 1660 video card. “Use hardware-accelerated video encoding” and “Use hardware acceleration when available” are both turned on. If there is something other than that I am all ears.
You’ll be blown away how good iGPU is at transcoding. That being said, I am sporting a i9-9900ks CPU. The point of this thread is to see how much better the iGPU is since the 9th Gen, more specifically 12th Gen. from earlier posts though it seems that they are only now getting the hardware transcoding to work with 11th GEN. I had 40 streams running and iGPU was ~85% and cpu around 65% (CPU handles audio transcoding etc…)
Well luckily for me I don’t need 40 streams. I only have 20mbps upstreaming internet so I can’t support more than maybe 8 or so. My old server coudn’t handle that. It would peg out with anything over six and cause problems. So this is overkill for my ability to stream multiple streams since I’m bottlenecked by my upload limit.
I’m pretty sure that video card is locked to max out at only a couple of streams without applying some hack or workaround… Do you know what I’m talking about? You need to use a Quadro-based card to get around limitations.
I’m sure the setup is perfect for you I’m just trying to understand the performance increase with the newer generation processors.
Well if the video card isn’t transcoding it the CPU is because all 14 or so of those streams on the test above said they were hw transcoding.
